I find this little piece of news pretty interesting.
You see, while the rest of the world is cutting jobs at an alarming rate, Ubisoft are hiring more people to better prepare themselves for the next generation of consoles that they expect to arrive in around about 2 to 3 years from now.
Now, I really think that someone is not telling us something. Microsoft and Sony are both sounding off about how their consoles will last forever and a day and that they have no new plans at the moment but why then, would Ubisoft go to such measures to hire new staff if they assume that new consoles are coming, even though MS and Sony say otherwise?
Ubisoft’s CEO had a few words to say over the matter.
Ubisoft’s Yves Guillemot had the following to say:
“We want to take advantage of a company that could bring more technology to us, or new brands,” said CEO Yves Guillemot.”
“So we have now enough to help us to grow the company for not only next year but to get ready for the coming of the next generation consoles that are probably going to happen 2011, 2012.”
“We have to be ready for that, we are already hiring people and buying some technology and looking at some brands as well,”
It’s starting to feel like Microsoft and Sony are just talking smack again so that people will but consoles now and not be in the fear that they might be out of date in not too long. Although smack talk from any company is to be expected, I really think that the developers and publishers all know something that we don’t.

MS and Sony will not tell you about the next consoles, until right close to when it gets put on the shelve.
Would you spend the money on a new console, if you knew a ‘better’ one is 48-56 months away?
The xbox is now about 4 years old all ready, by year 6 and 7, I will want to buy a newer one.

I dont think the consoles are being discussed yet. Seeing so many more games being released that look so good for both consoles.
And i dont see Sony coughing out more dough for yet another console that wont probably live up to the hype
