Ubisoft has conservative expectations for Assassin’s Creed IV

Ubisoft’s next Assassin’s Creed game, Black Flag, is out this year – and will be releasing on current as well as next gen systems. Despite that, Ubisoft doesn’t think it’ll sell as well as Assassin’s Creed 3.

Speaking to investors, Ubisoft’s CEO Yves Guillemot said the company is reigning in its expectations for the pirate-themed prequel.

“To come back to Assassin’s Creed 4, in our numbers we have… we expect less than last year,” he said in the call, according to Gamespot.

It would be difficult to match AC3’s numbers. the game has to date sold a record-breaking 12 and a half million copies. Perhaps they’ve realised that with annual releases, the Assassin’s Creed name is wearing a little thin, or perhaps they know that of those copies sold, a great number of them left gamers feeling disappointed. I, for one, did not like Assassin’s Creed 3 very much.

Still, they are going to remain hopeful – and will be doing all they can to make sure that Black Flag achieves the milestones set by Connor’s disjointed adventure.

“We are actually pushing to achieve more than last year because we think the pirate segment is a great segment that can generate a lot more on a worldwide basis than what was achieved last year,” Guillemot said.

“But we wanted to be prudent on our expectations so that it can probably be a bonus if it comes.”

Assassin’s Creed 4 will release in November for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, PC and even the Wii U. While AC3 pretty much made me swear of the series, I have to admit to being intrigued enough by the prospect of being a golden-age pirate to give it a chance. I’d probably be more excited about it had it been done as a new IP though.

What about you? are you excited for Black Flag?

I still have to play AC3, I’ve played the other titles so want to conclude the story, but so far not tempted at all to buy it 😛 Maybe when it hits R199 or less.

Wow, I have yet to play even revelations, and if AC3 is that bad, then I dunno 🙁

Revelations is okay, few annoying elements. ACII was probably the highlight, with Brotherhood refining everything a bit more.

AC2 and Brotherhood were damn cool for me. I don’t want to ask what is annoying in ACR, just out of fear of spoiling 🙂

I don’t get it, I loved AC1 more than any off the rest… But it seems everyone else on the planet loved AC2 more than the other ones?!?!?!? Is my brain getting too old to conform or is Altair a douche and I just can’t see it????
Didn’t hate AC3, just think it took too long to get going and then it went on too long to get to the end!!

hear hear. ASS CRACK 1 WAS THE SHIT because it was groundbreaking and hit Prince of Persia out of the park with the record breaking amount of animations that Altier had.

Dont give a shit about the others. just because they slapped a number on the end does not mean I have to buy it.

I think this would have been a perfect oppotunity for a new IP… Not sure if I’m comfortable with it being AC… I’ll definitaly try it, but open worlds are only cool if there’s stuff to do.. killing bunnies and tree climbing aint high on my to do list in games…

Strangely enough. I feel the same. I think a completely new IP would’ve had people much more excited.
