One of the biggest tragedies of the last couple of years in the gaming industry, has to be the Wii U. It may have been home to some phenomenal games over the years, but the core idea behind that console just didn’t work. It was ugly, it lacked any third-party support later on its life and consumers just didn’t get it. I’ve got a good feeling about the Nintendo Switch however.
The Big N may finally be learning from past mistakes, instead of stubbornly refusing to adapt. And with a very different approach to gaming that doesn’t need to compete with the likes of Sony and Microsoft, the Nintendo Switch could be home to some very transformative types of games in the future as well. At least, that’s what Ubisoft is thinking. “With the Nintendo Switch’s unique capacities and design, Nintendo could again redefine the way we play games,” Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said via GameSpot.
The Nintendo Switch is accessible at its core and also seizes on the growing trends of sharing more experiences and playing anywhere at any time. Ubisoft and Nintendo enjoy a long-standing partnership and we are currently developing a number of games for the platform, including Just Dance 2017. We look forward to sharing more at a later date.
It’s not the first time that Ubisoft has waxed lyrical about the Nintendo Switch. Back in September, Ubisoft said that the Nintendo Switch was “a new approach, it’s really Nintendo, [which is] coming with something new again.”
As for other console details, don’t expect the Big N to be too forthcoming in the near future. Wall Street Journo Takashi Mochizuki tweeted that any future game and spec announcements will be saved for 2017:
Nintendo: no more official announcement would come this year on 1) game titles 2) spec details, including region-lock status.

In case you missed it yesterday, here’s the post detailing the reveal of the Nintendo Switch, an Nvidia-powered home and mobile console that may make the utter hell of air travel a little bit better in 2017.

Ubisoft usually has no idea what’s going on in the gaming world, so I disagree.
The Switch isn’t something to compete with or change gaming, it’s there to add to and enhance experiences.

MMmm. No. I don’t think there is any “redefining” to be done.
This is something that’s there for the handheld market. The handheld market already does things like play on TV’s etc. BUT, the tech seems amazing and is really superb to fill that gap where you don’t want big title AAA gaming or the exclusive gaming on Console. It’s there for the fun, anywhere gaming market and that is going to make this worth while.
Nintendo has always done better in the handheld market than in the console market. But this device seems to look to do a little bit of what the Wii could as well. A nice little crossover.
Very cool

As much as I am impressed with Skyrim on a handheld, the thing that really makes me sad is the Switch will have zero benefit to myself. I mean it’s a great console/handheld, but sadly there will be no real reason for me to get this. My PS4 and soon to be upgraded PC will do gaming wise, and besides, my wife will stab me with an icepick if I play video games in bed!

Raptor Rants
October 21, 2016 at 08:46
You said it yourself. It has zero benefit to you.
For me, I want something console like but I don’t want a full on console. So handhelds and devices like this are perfect. When I game away from my PC I whip out my DS or my phone.
This would be a perfect mix of the two for me.

You game on your phone??? Filthy Casual!!! Though I hear you. I prefer a big-ish screen in anycase. So my PS4 still will do. Though the idea of playing games on the loo can keep me out of trouble and I do not think that last part needed to be shared but there!

I think this is brilliant. Imagine you and 4 buddies with one each. U could go away on a group holiday and instead of taking pics or consoles with. This will work brilliant. Easy to carry and from what I can see in the video that u could play multiplayer almost LAN style which is even more perfect. There are huge benefits to this form the switch is taking. So much more practical in a sense.

Yeah I used to dream packing my PC to go LAN (back in the day when I had time on my side) now it’s different. Everyone has limited time so this in a small backpack with no extra monitors to carry is a blessing. Hopefully my Stingy friends would buy into this like I would. Then it would make more sense lol
