Ubisoft's Child of Light to be JRPG influenced

Ubisoft has revealed their new project, Child of Light. It’s a side-scrolling “fairytale game” that seeks to capture the “Squaresoft spirit” of PS1 JRPG classics like Final Fantasy and Vagrant Story.

Child of Light is a small downloadable game in development at Ubisoft Montreal. The game is being led by Far Cry 3’s Patrick Plourde who sees the project as a “playable poem” – a mix between Limbo and Final Fantasy VI. Need he say more?

Child of Light releases at the end of this year, and I really hope we get more information during Gamescom. At this point, this is basically all we know. Oh, and the Plourde described Child of Light as a counter-point to Far Cry 3 and was inspired by a range of art and music, including illustrations from Disney’s Snow White and early 20th century children’s books.

No platforms have even been confirmed, although Plourde says the game won’t launch on mobile platforms. He believes it is “potential next-gen IP”. Tell me more! How you can taunt me with promises of the Squaresoft spirit without any pictures or video?

It’s interesting to me that we’re seeing a revival of the JRPG genre.  Not just the genre, but going back to its roots. Even Project Phoenix, the game I told you about last week, has hit $500k funding on Kickstarter in its first week! I really hope that all these guys are successful and create awesome games – we need more JRPG awesomeness to sink our teeth into!

Indeed …. the fangirl … I mean fanboi inside of me is brewing, with this and Project Phoenix, exciting times ahead for JRPG fans, I just want the Genre to return to form, it is all I want so badly. Found a copy of Radiant Historia, and damn that game reminded me why I love Jrpgs

          HO-MAI-GAWD.

Its so fantastic to see the genre still *barely* alive… I cannot wait to go on another adventure and carry way too much gear than humanly possible in outfits clearly without pockets.

Ironically enough, No, its not sarcasm.

I was just a bad mood since I found out my FF XII save file died, as I was replaying it on my PC. 🙁
