Ubisoft’s not happy that people used the Story Creator Mode to farm XP

Farming

Last month, Ubisoft released the Story Creator mode for its already sprawling RPG Epic, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. The mode allows creators to make and share their own stories. And they have! People have created quests with their own dialogue and own rewards. Those rewards include XP – so, of course, people have been using the mode to effectively cheat the system, making simple quests that dole out XP like a health clinic dishes out condoms.

Ubisoft does not want people to do that. Despite the fact that Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is a single player game and farming a bit of easy XP hurts nobody in the long run, Ubisoft says that doing so will “risk jeopardizing the overall quality, integrity, and purpose of Story Creator Mode.” It also makes their paid XP boosts a little pointless. Anyway, Ubisoft says those who continually abuse the tool for XP gains could find themselves “sanctioned.”

“Story Creator Mode was designed to be a tool for players to let their creativity and imagination run free as they build their very own Stories to share with others, using a modified version of the tools our own designers used to develop the quests in the game. However, since the launch of the beta we have noticed an increasing flow of “farming quests,” that exploit the tool to get large amounts of XP. These exploits risk jeopardizing the overall quality, integrity, and purpose of Story Creator Mode and results in less visibility for the creative, interesting and frankly fantastic community stories that have been published.

We want to focus on rewarding creativity by highlighting quality quests and we are working on fixes and adjustments to reduce the impact of such farming quests on the player experience. We are also changing Story Creator Mode’s terms of use to prevent creators from publishing these kinds of Stories.”

As such, Ubisoft will be changing a few things to reduce the impact of XP farming:

  • XP farming quests will not appear in our automatic recommendation system – this includes the Hall of Fame and the trending section.
  • Stories that are reported for exploitation or cheating will be hidden moving forward.
  • Our terms of use will be updated to reflect the misuse of the tool.
  • We will be sanctioning those who continue to willingly and intentionally misuse the tool.

If you’ve used the tool to farm XP, consider yourself scolded.

This was the first thing I thought about when I checked it out. Not surprised people are doing it.

I’m actually playing this again. Didn’t finish it when I played it on release. Also we now have the DLCs and the last part drops next week so I decided it’s time to get back into it. I’m currently on level 30 and am just about to start the quests in Athens (which is lev 17 I think) so I don’t really need more stuff to level up. Running around exploring the world and killing cultists and clearing forts is just so much fun i don’t even want to do the story quests.

    THIS is the reason why

Yep probably. So I get how stupid the boosters and stuff is but what I don’t get is how little of the game do some people then play that you would want/need something like this. I’ve not been doing every single quests but I do clear the areas and explore every question mark and I’m currently level 30 and the main quests are level ~17.

So I don’t see how people can be under leveled when they get to an area. Do they just do the main quests?

Maybe I’m just stupid but I don’t see why people would want these things and it’s just as stupid that they have these things in the first place. It just makes my brain hurt. I can’t even get my head around it to explain what I’m thinking XD

Does Ubisoft know a thing like trainers exists?

Why pay for boosters when you can just press F1.

Have you tried using any on a recent Ubi game? I’d be very surprised if they don’t have memory protection stuff and that you could get away with it. I’ve been very tempted to try but don’t want them to screw me over if I do

        Have not tried yet.

If i get my PC up and running will try and see if i can find something and test since i’m not playing anymore, constant frame drops gives me heavy headaches and motion sickness.

Yes because “cheating” in a SP only game that effects only you could get you “banned”… oh yea corporate pigs and their “surprise mechanics”.

    TSEK man!

You know I’ve been very tempted to see what would happen if I use CheatEngine to mess with the game a bit. Maybe I should try it with an older game but then again why would they really care.

I won’t be surpised if they remove the game from my library but that is some crazy shit

I am waiting for mine to arrive, ordered it from Raru but waiting for something else that was delayed. First Assassins Creed I have been excited to play (Black Flag was a happy accident)

This is a really good game. The changes they made to combat and gameplay in general in Origins brought new life into the series. I’m kinda torn between which are my favourites now. Cause Black Flag is still amazing, I guess I’d say it’s the best of the classics. But at the top it has to be Odyssey just because I love ancient Greece and the Mythology. Same with Egyptian stuff

Which is why the rumoured Viking game should be awesome. Don’t know that much about viking life (vs Greek/Egypt) but it shoud still be awsome.

It’s basically the playable factions from Age of Mythology, the best AoE spin off

Also. Bringing back the Friday Debate from earlier. THIS is why retro games are better.
