Uncharted movie gets an official release date

The release date is that far away

The Unchartered series of games is easily one of my favourites from the last generation. It’s not all pew pew really, but rather one giant adventure after another. The cinematic and narrative quality of the game is something that is just screaming to be placed on the silver screen. An Uncharted movie isn’t exactly unheard of, but details on it have been pretty scarce as of late. This is no longer true, as the film adaptation has finally received a release date.

According to Deadline, Sony have pegged the Uncharted movie for June 10 2016. That date was originally reserved for Spider-Man 3, but it’s since been delayed until 2018. That’s not bad, it’s just a two year wait for a live version of some adventuring goodness.

There’s just one thing key ingredient missing. They haven’t even chosen somebody to fill the big boots of Nathan Drake. Rumour has it that Mark Wahlberg is to take the role, but thankfully nothing has been confirmed just yet. The film will be directed by Seth Gordon, while the screenplay is being handled by David Guggenheim.

What do you think? Are you excited to see the game receive (a hopefully good) film adaption? I really don’t see how they could screw it up. They could literally take some cinematics from the game, duplicate it in real life, and just trim down the hours of gun fights to fit into a two hour film duration. Also, who would you like to see take the roles of not only Drake, but also Sully and other iconic Uncharted characters? I just don’t see Wahlberg being the right fit.

    Sully can be played by Sam Axe of Burn Notice, he would be perfect!!! Drake can be played by Timothy Olyphant, think Raylan Givens in Justified without the hat and add a scruffy beard… Both would work for me!!

        I take it you don’t really watch Justified? Give it a look in, it is the best show ever created, every season has been better than the last and the first one was stunning!!

            The writers of Justified should win way more awards than what they are currently… After every season I feel like there is no way there can be another one, yet on comes a new one and it is great!! Brilliant series!!

            I struggled a bit with Season 5 due to the casting of Michael Rappaport. I love his previous work and he did a great job as Darryl but I struggled to reconcile the more serious role after seeing him in so much comedy work. Kinda like when Woody Harrelson first moved to more dramatic stuff.
            It also doesn’t help that he looks like my boet who’s a complete goofball.

    Gotta say… I would be happy to see Nolan North play him (the actor who actually does Drake in the game) …. might not have enough Hollywood Heat, though.
    Otherwise, I also think Ryan Gossling has the required look and attitude.

    The only person with the look and comedic timing to actually be Drake is Nathan Fillion.
    Just finished watching Firefly again – That is Nate right there.
    Regrettably, he is too old now. He could still pull it off if he gets in shape, but they won’t go for him if they want to make a franchise out of it.
    Emily Rose is fine to play Elana in the movie as well.
    Sully is difficult. 10-15 years ago? I’d say slap a mustache on Robert Duvall. There’s your Sully 😉
    I would’ve been more excited for this if I thought that there was any chance that they’d get the casting right. Could’ve been the Indiana Jones sequel I actually wanted.

    Drake = Nathan Fillion
    Young Drake = Joel Courtney
    Sully = Stanley Tucci/James Caan
    Marlowe = Helen Mirren (no doubt)
    Love Interest = which ever actress got top 10 in maxim’s hot 100 (well that’s the criteria at least)
