Update your 2016 eSports calendar from February to April

We’re bound to see a record number of major eSports events in 2016. It’s only February and we’ve already seen a few major events from Dota 2, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Smite and even Halo 5. The League of Legends LCS has been running for a few weeks too, so it’s time you updated your eSports calendar for what’s to come from February to April.

Grab your calendar and mark these dates!

February

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive – ESL Barcelona

The world’s best CS:GO teams will meet once again at the Fira Barcelona Montjuïc trade fair institution to play for the ESL cup in their first major. Once again eight Legends will face eight challengers in a showdown of epic proportions, with new teams hoping to make 2016 their year. Teams to watch out for are long time winners Fnatic, the French EnvyUS, and newly reformed Cloud9. North America and Europe are set to clash on February 19th.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive – MLG Major Qualifier

MLG, under new management of Activision Blizzard, will host their first Major Qualifier at the MLG Arena in Columbus, Ohio pitting the world’s best teams from Europe, CIS and North America. Eight teams will qualify to go through to challenge the eight highest ranking teams from the Cluj-Napoca Major. The action kicks off on the 26th of February.

Dota 2 – Shanghai Major

Part of Valve’s new Major Series, Dota 2 makes their second stop in Shanghai where the best teams around the world will fight it out for the title, and a really cool looking trophy. Dota 2 first Major installment for 2016 will add to the already steady pace of the MOBA as the complete their Major series which culminates in The International later this year. The East will meet North America and Europe once again in the clash of the titans. The Shanghai Major kicks off on March 2nd.

IEM Katowice World Championship

IEM returns for the eSports festival, this time hosted in Spodek, Katowice, Poland. The festival includes the best teams in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, League of Legends and Starcraft II. The last IEM festival drew interest from the most unlikely of people hosting a showmatch featuring owner of the Dallas Mavericks, Mark Cuban. IEM Katowice kicks off on March 4th.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive – MLG Major Columbus

The eight teams from the Qualifier will meet the Legends in 2016s first MLG showdown. This will be the first time a CS:GO Major has been hosted in Columbus, the famous MLG Arena which has featured a majority of Starcraft II and Call of Duty championships in the past. The Major kicks off on March 29th.

April

League of Legends – EU LCS Spring Finals

The EU, and NA, LCS Spring Split has underway since January culminating in the final showdown in Rotterdam this April. New teams have risen, while some old are falling, as all hope for the Mid-Season Invitational. The Finals start on April 16th.

League of Legends – NA LCS Spring Finals

Much like the EU LCS, the NA spring split comes to an end in none other than Las Vegas. The teams will be playing for a spot in the Mid-Season invitational, which is on the road to the World Championship later this year.
