[Update] Game Prices After October 27

Earlier today we posted that game prices will be seeing a hike as of the 27th of October. While we were worried that games may be seeing as much as R850 per title, it looks like we might be able to relax a little bit.

South African distributor Megarom have seen the article and have sent me a price list of the titles that will be releasing after that date and I can happily say that while the price increase will still happen, we won’t likely be seeing the prices that we feared.

Prices and more after the jump.

From what I have seen on this price list, there will be no standard titles that will exceed the R699 mark.

Here is a list of some of the big titles coming from Megarom. If any other distributors would like to clarify any of there RRP’s please feel free to mail me at nick@lazygamer.co.za.

End of October:

James Bond – Quantum of Solace: R679

Fallout 3 – R679.00

Legendary – R679.00

November:

Tom Clancy’s End War – R699.00

Call of Duty: World at War – R679.00

Guitar Hero World Tour – Standalone Game – R679.00

Shaun White Snowboarding – R699.00

Naruto – The Broken Bond – R699.00

December

Prince of Persia – R699.00

So there you have it folks, while the prices are going up, they are at least not going to be going up to what we had feared which is a bit less of a kick in the pants from the economic crisis.

Also, many people are reporting to us that preorder prices are not looking like they are going to be locked down at all in most cases, so be advised.

  1. I’m sure the distributers just add a mark-up onto their prices for a sure seller. That really works on my nerves. Ive just copied this from kalahari.net :”Fallout 3 Format: PS3â„¢ Was R 574.95 Now R 517.46 (eB 5175)”

Obviously nobody told them it was going to be a hit….hahaha

It is a pre-order item, so whether it’s going to stay there is another question.

    Shop around people…

I shudder to think what the Ster Kinekor mark ups are gonna look like considering they were already asking close to R800 for LBP,Resistance 2 and Motorstorm 2 before this.

What scarier is that don’t even want to know retailers like Top CD and Look & Listen will be asking for those…… 😐

Thank the lord for pre-order,getting myself Fallout 3 for R530!But the prices listed above are probably for large chain stores like Musica and Look&Listen, they always over inflate the game prices. When Mass Effect first came out Musica had it for R599,went to the local Checkers and they had it for R479 so just shop around I say.BTW Gears 2 is R699 at Look&Listen. . . 👿

Ok well I don’t know about you guys but this morning I have received two emails from BT saying that my WotLK order will go up buy R90 and my Fallout 3 PS3 will go up by R70. Even though I’ve pre-ordered and paid a while ago. I can understand that they have to increase their prices, but can they do it on preodered and already paid items? I’m in the mood to through my toys out of the cot about this one…

Unfortunately I don’t know who you could actually throw your toys at.
The retailers all have a point in the terms and conditions to protect themselves and so do the distributors… The distributors get given a USD based price from the developer and they then give a RRP to the retailers. If the developer ups the price or the currency falls through the floor there is little that either the distributor or retailer can do.

easy – contact other retailers that have it still cheaper
because there still are and ask them to guarantee it, then cancel at the retailer that is more expensive
