US Sales data for last week – Halo 3 is coming

It looks like the Halo effect has started in the US with the release of last weeks sales figures.

While the order is still the same the gaps have changed dramatically.

Wii          –   93,455 (-20%)
Xbox 360-   88,658 (+17%)
PS3         –   30,158 (-42%

A 42% drop for the PS3 and this in the week that Heavenly Sword was released. Ouch, I told you it wasn’t a system seller.

The software sales look better for the PS3 at least with Heavenly Sword shifting 77,445 units (still less than the 90k Bioshock and 83k Wii Sports sales) but in total sales Microsoft still completely outclasses the competition.

Xbox 360  –  731,887
Wii            –  422,430
PS3           –  333,701

All I can say is OUCH! Games are what make or break a console!

When you strip out Wii Sports (bundled with the console) and Wii Play (bundled with a Wiimote), the Wii’s REAL software sales really aren’t very good. They’re still less than the PS3’s software sales, and are probably not attractive to third-party devs.

Anyway, Halo 3 will rule the roost for a few weeks. 2007 is Microsoft’s year. It will be interesting to see if Sony can catch up in 2008 or not.

Yeah, the attachment rate on the X360 is the highest amongst the 3 contenders by a wide margin.

The 360’s attachement rate is the highest of any console in history sitting at around 6 games per unit.

I also wonder about the stats, I think most of the European sales charts only list “full price retail games”.

Do you have some proof on that statement Doobi?
Surely the Xbox cant have a higher attachment rating than the ps2, most people I know have atleast 15-20 games for their ps2’s

I can’t find any exact numbers but while the PS2 has a good attachment rate you need to remember a couple of million of them were bought and hardly ever used. I know quite a few people with a PS2 and only 1 or 2 games.

If we ignore all the PS2’s bought for people who don’t really use them then yes I think the PS2 has a better attachment rate. Anyone can spin figures anyway they like though.
