Wait What? Is Natal going to cost $200?

Before anybody flies in to fits of rage, or starts pointing fingers and laughing, this is all supremely speculative. The internet is a flurry with rumours that Natal is going to be bloody expensive.

While earlier rumours, and crystal ball-gazing have pegged the price of the peripheral to be some where between $80 and $150, listings on Swedish websites have it listed at a considerably higher price.

Not one or two – but three Swedish sites have Natal listed at 1,499 Swedish Krona – which is just a shade under $200 US dollars, a little under one and a half thousand South African Rands.

There’s a pretty good chance that this is an imaginary placeholder price, it’s just a little odd that 3 different retailers have the same price – unless that’s the RRP suggested to them by their local distributor. There’s also a chance – roughly the same as monkeys actually flying out of my butt – that this price is a bundle including a new redesigned Xbox 360 Slim.

What do you folk think? If this price ends up being correct, and we’re looking at paying R1500 for controlerless waggle, does Natal have any hope of succeeding? It’s about 3/4 of the price of a brand new Xbox 360 Arcade unit, far too much for a single peripheral. Personally I think Microsoft wants Natal attached to just about every single working Xbox 360, and they’ll have to suck up a huge loss for that to happen.

We’ll have to wait for E3 to see what it’ll cost at retail.

😆 It wouldn’t surprise me if it launched in SA for just short of R2000. This is Microsoft after all, not so long ago they made us pay nearly R1200 for a 20Gb Harddrive and the xbox 360 wireless adapter is still almost R900. 😆
