The one Microsoft title that’s conspicuously absent from the list of launch titles is the game that helped the Xbox 360 sell so many consoles in the first place; Gears of War. Many fans are wondering just where that next-gen Gears of War is. Nowhere at the moment, according to Microsoft’s Phil Spencer.

He says that a new Gears of War would be up to series progenitor Epic Games – and if you want information on a new one, to ask them.

“Gears of War is developed by Epic Games, and they’ve been our partners for a long time on Xbox 360. You should ask Epic Games about what they want to do. We haven’t announced anything yet about Gears of War, but we hope to bring it to Xbox One in some form. However, there’s nothing more I can tell you at this time,”  he told Famitsu in an interview translated by Dualshockers.

The current theory is that Painkiller, Gears of War: Judgment and Bulletstorm developer People Can Fly currently has the reins on the series and is quite likely busy developing a next-gen Gears of War. after the frankly disappointing Judgment though, I’m not sure I’d want it.

I think Gears of War, as a franchise, helped define the current generation of games – and perhaps it should stay confined to this generation. The era of Unreal Engine 3 and its muscle-bound meatheads is over.

I haven’t played the last Gears, but perhaps the whole gears of war games are done and dusted. I mean Gow 3 was good but still felt like more of the same really, and next gen what they gonna add more locust? A massive horde of millions, will be cool for 5 min.

Exactly. If I have to play the same games again next gen that I am playing this gen, what is the point then of going to next-gen?

He said that? Really? So “games” = Gears of War.

Well then I guess the other 30-odd software diversion I have on pc, and many more software diversion on console are just, not games.

Oh Tosh, please tell me you are not that silly. What I meant was, and I will use GTA as an example, is that I want my games to evolve a bit.
GTA 1 was a top down view game.
With GTA 3, as tech evolved, they went third person 3d.
With GTA IV, they went batshit insane (in a good way) and added so much more to a game. Think bowling, online dating strip clubs and so forth.
GTA V looks to be another technical marvel (I have not played the game myself yet)
What has Gears done in between 1,2, and 3? Nothing.

I believe you and mr noble both missed my comment’s purpose. *le sigh* (to be fair, was fun trolling Mr Noble)

I know what you meant, and I was ragging you about it. Maybe I should include a “:P” next time?

Personally, I love good sequels, but bad ones suck, no matter which gen they’re on. So, next gen means nothing in the “same games” context.

How about do a story, from a complete different view. Be the locust, Their story from start how they came about ect, and them invading against the Cog.

That could work as well, because they did hint that the locusts were sentient. It would be interesting to see the war from their perspective. Although I can already see Fox news crying about “green propaganda” and “the scourge of environmentalism” or “eco-terrorism” in gaming.

Well, if Gears goes multiplatform, that will be a whole lot of sales lost for the XB1. Not that I give a damn. Gears is really overrated in my opinion. Same as Halo.

I actually wouldn’t mind a new Gears of War, but they need to move away from the events of the trilogy, and they definitely shouldn’t make prequels. Throw in a new threat! Surely other alien life exists elsewhere that can take on the COGs?

gears PC was the best and still is because of keyboard and mouse support, not to mention the 60fps, so being able to wall bounce properly and snipe without a controller made it for me. I still play gears PC to this day. Just a tragedy when they didn’t release any of the others of the franchise on GFWL. Lets hope to GOD they release a new gears on (PC) as well as Xbox one..

Im sure there is a bit more that they can do with the Gears Franchise. The Locust saga is over and done with so they should keep it that way. I have no issues with the gameplay. Even if it moves to next gen. I just think a really great story will do wonders for the franchise. Some updated gameplay inbetween shouldnt hurt either.

I hate ppl that call gears overrated gears brought a whole new type of genre to 3rd person and was something i think developers used to create games like uncharted gta 4 and other games that implemented cover and over the shoulder firing view aside from RE 4 which helped create realism in shooters… I think epic or whoever should not try to create the same old gears of war’ they should try to evolve iit with realism not just level hopping im not saying open world but something that made the game different from turok 007 perfect dark halo thats why it was popular from the beginning theres always a way to make a game better than just adding new story new weapons new vehicles they need to add a variety id love to see hand to hand combat duel wielding stealth the use of kinect that supports the gameplay like throwing your weapon at the enemy with no ammo left those are just examples but im just saying gears of war still has the same potential it did back in 06 developers just got to know how to make the game a new experience.
