As you may have noticed, we have been reporting on the growth of eSports in South Africa – a range of competitions on a variety of platforms playing various games.  So, how do you become a part of it?

The Telkom Do Gaming League (DGL) is the largest and most recognized league in SA.  You can visit their website, or like their Facebook page to keep up with the latest details.  Remember, you can still register for the Winter Leg – entries are open until 19 May.

Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) is an affiliate of the South African Confederation of Sport and Olympic Committee.  It deals with board games, card games, eSports, Robotics and Wargames.  The MSSA website is currently under construction, but they have an active Facebook page for those who are interested.

Then, there are the numerous community pages on Facebook!  Go have a check:

League of Legends

Counter Strike: Global Offensive

DOTA 2

iRacers

Call of Duty

The only way the local scene can thrive is if we support each other and help eSports grow – from official league matches to casual gatherings, every little bit helps!  If you know any other groups, please let us know!

There is a dedicated fighting scene down here in Cape Town, organised by a group called…. Cape Town Showdown.

At our local monthly gaming meetup, 2upGamers, they have a tournament too. Last week they were playing Tekken Tag Tournament 2, first prize was a Madcatz fightstick.

Ohhhhh, and he missed it by a mile!!!! That’s called lego. It’s a plastic toy company known for its plastic blocks used to build anything the child’s mind can come up with.
