Warcraft 4 might be coming after StarCraft 2

Warcraft

Now that StarCraft 2 is basically wrapped up, complete with leaked release date, we can start speculating about what Blizzard will work on next. Of course, it’s a whole lot easier to speculate when we have quotes from insiders to work with.

Speaking to IGN at Gamescom, producer Tim Morton admitted that while they certainly could make a StarCraft 3 focusing on new characters, that’s not the only thing they’re thinking about.

This isn’t the end of StarCraft, but it’s the end of this story for these characters. We don’t have any specific plans, but I’ll say that the universe has so much potential for more stories, clearly other stories could be told.

It’s very rewarding for us to hear that there’s demand out there for more RTS content in the Warcraft universe so once we’re done with Void I think we’ll get together as a team and talk about what would inspire us to work on next. There’s no question, though, that we’ll consider Warcraft, StarCraft, or even new ideas. Anything is possible.

It’s interesting to think that Blizzard is reevaluating what to do with their IP. Heroes of the Storm has opened up a lot of the lore and gotten people excited about the Warcraft universe again in a way that’s really different from the MMO. It would be nice to see them continue the story in a new RTS game – it’s been long enough already, and it’s a good way to keep things fresh instead of adding yet more expansions to the MMO.

Would you rather play a new Warcraft game, or an all new StarCraft game? Or are you tired of all the existing lore and just want to see the other IP Blizzard is working on?

Overwatch is a new IP with a completely new story and new characters. No need for more new. I want Warcraft 4 or Warcraft remastered

BLACKTHORNE! Make a new Blackthorne. No more Warcraft. Last time they made Warcraft 3, and that lead to endless fields of cabbages and semi-English words.

Did you hear about that 16 year old MOBA player who’s now much MUCH richer than all of us combined?

WOW that’s amazing! Everyone should have a MOBA and then we can all be millionaires! WEEEEEE!

Of course you’d miss the point. Should’ve known.

Of course you’d make an irrelevant point. 🙂

How that irrelevant? Warcraft 3 spawned a genre that not only allows people to actually make careers from – but also paves the way for other games to do the same. And brings our hobby into the spotlight as an ever increasing thing to take seriously. That’s good for all of us. Hate on MOBA’s all you want, but we all have a lot to thank them for.

I have zero interest in MOBAs, that’s my opinion on them. Telling me people make millions on them, which I actually do know & doesn’t impress me in the slightest, doesn’t change my opinion on them. Hence, your point is irrelevant to me.

Again, it’s not about whether you are interested in playing them – it’s about what they’ve done for all of us as gamers. Not just MOBA players.

Which means you’ve missed the point. The point is relevant to everyone – interested in MOBAs or not.

I see what you are saying, but don’t think MOBAs have done anything more than games like Zelda or Mario for gaming.

But that’s exactly it. I don’t enjoy either of those, but I do appreciate the impact they had on gaming. Dismissing those because I don’t enjoy them is really narrow minded.

I got your original point. You thought “but money!” was a meaningful response to make to me, then got sulky when I didn’t take that seriously & shifted the discussion to impacts on the gaming industry & esports – something completely different.

You’re quite right that MOBAs have done a lot for the games industry, and I’ll never deny that, however I wasn’t even remotely referencing anything of the sort with my initial comment.

You are WRONG! MOBAs made games like Mass Effect, Red Dead Redemption, Witcher III possible!

For this one? Hell yes. If it was the naga one that people were guessing at? Probably not. This is Illidan. This brings the story back to the glory days of the lore – it’s relevant and exciting. And lore is a huge part of why I enjoy WoW. So yeah. This one, amazing. Pandaria was 100% meh. WoD wasn’t bad, it was interesting, but not as relevant. This is the first relevant expansion since WotLK. So yes. I’m excited.

Wouldn’t mind a new Warcraft RTS, but I’m just wondering how they’re going to do it so that it fits in properly with the lore of WoW. They can maybe launch it simultaneously with a future expansion and let it tie in with the story?

I’d have preferred it if the WoW lore was non-canon. Too much going on in WoW, and not a straightforward storyline.

Actually, since the current expansion (WoD) – they have a good mechanism for a reboot in the RTS genre. They now have a parallel storyline to use, one that won’t interfere with the WoW storyline. It’d make a lot of sense.

I’ll never forget in high school we had to write an essay in class, so my friend was done first and as he stood up (the class was dead quiet) to hand it in at the teachers’ desk he said: “Job’s done.” In that exact voice of the peasant workers. It was freaking hilarious!

    Only played single player campaigns.

Warcraft 2? That was quite fun.

Warcraft 3 was ok, just not as much fun.

Warcraft 4? Yeah, bring it on. Why not?

This might even force a PC or laptop upgrade, just to play.
