Watch Dogs may not be best on PlayStation 4 after all

TurnBackTime

Yesterday, we told you that Sony was boastfully claiming that Watch Dogs, Ubisoft’s open-world hacking action adventure was best on its platform, claiming that it was the only place (other than PC…obviously) you’d be able to play the game at a glorious 60 frames per second, rendered lovingly at 1080 vertical lines of pixels. Only they’ve gone and unsaid it.

Here’s what Sony’s website used to say

The world of Watch Dogs comes alive on PS4 with the best graphics on any console and exclusive missions found only on PlayStation. Hack everything as you make your way through Chicago’s underground as you experience Watch_Dogs in a way that only PS4 can provide, at 60 Frames Per Second in 1080p.

The chaps at GameInformer noticed that the boastful text has been wholly excised from Sony’s website – there’s no longer any mention of the game running at 60 frames per second or indeed 1080p.

The presumably false information has been propagated all over the internet, probably because it helps point out the disparities that exist between the PlayStation 4 and the arguably weaker Xbox One.

If you want to experience Watch Dogs at a glorious 60fps (and you probably do), you’re going to have to do so on a reasonably powerful PC.  Watch Dogs was previously rumoured to be running at 30fps on both new consoles – so it’s probably safe to assume that’ll be the case.

Neither Sony nor Ubisoft have offered comment on the matter. Watch Dogs is coming on May 27th to just about all of the home consoles. The Wii U version is in production, and will be coming along later.

Oh…and for those of you hoping to get the full Watch dogs experience, you’re a bit out of luck. Not a single version of the game available from any retailer contains all of the game’s content. Each of the many different SKU’s of Watch Dogs contains something different, with a little overlap from the purchase of a Season Pass. It’s honestly just a tad ludicrous. Cheap Ass Gamer’s Robert Goode pointed this out on Twitter.

What has gaming become? Stupid silly DLC. You know what dudes? I don’t even feel bad for waiting a year or two and buying your game on some ridiculous cheap special with ALL the DLC INCLUDED!

On a side note, what is the best combo for FTL against the main Rebel ship? I’ve put in some serious hours on FTL but if that cheating ass boss ship kills me one more time I’m going back to Skyrim.

It depends what ship you are fighting them with. Transport in and cause havoc. There are 4 weapon systems, take out the trip-missile first, then the trip-heavy-laser and kill as many of the crew as possible (this will make the second and third wave MUCH easier)
Pop me a direct message on Steam when you are playing, I’ll walk you through it.
Systems to look out for to upgrade that help a lot, are the transporter (you transport 2x crew into the trip missile for instance, you kill the crewmember there and disable the missiles, then repeat for other weapon systems), the cloak (since once you activate cloak, all shots currently in process of hitting you will miss, good to avoid those missiles!) and the mind control also works well

fuck your understanding of video games, as politely as that can be interpreted. We are sick of being eaten alive by acutal monsters, just to be able to beat the shit out of monsters in the game we’re forced to deal with.

Yes I know!! But there are not all that many old games left for me to play, or rather that I want to play. So I am stuck buying new games as they come out. The only two old games that I want to play is GTA5 and The Last of Us and now both are coming to my PS4 as well…… So yeah I am pretty much screwed!!
And I still think Watch Dogs is going to be a super cool game, the premise has had me from day one which really hasn’t happened often over the last 3 or so years!!

I believe that you get the same trade-in value as PS3 games at “that” store. I’m not sure about that thought but having to trade-in a AAA title for a game is not worth it.

          • Jonah Cash

            May 13, 2014 at 13:58

I trade them in, there has very rarely been a game that I wanted to replay over the last 10 years!! I just play new games and enjoy them!! So having it just sit on the shelf is useless to me so I might as well get R350 for it and offset that on the new game!!

DLC is like microtransactions, I have never paid for either. And I can truly say that I don’t feel I have missed all that much in any case!! I played Batman Arkham Asylum when it came out and then a year later I bought again but the GOTY edition and really people that hour more on the game didn’t make a single bit of difference to the game!!! Everyone relax, the game is not cut up in 4 parts which forces you to pay for DLC!! You are paying for the main game and DLC buyers is paying for their horses to have better armour!!!

I have played quite a bit of Fifa and if I didn’t buy anyone else and kept all my coins I would still not be able to buy even one of those 4 players!! Hahaha

Not that is ridicules beyond measure, but you do seem to get all the actual missions with the season pass. The game and white hat pack are part of the original purchase. Although the White hat pack only works on the PS4 for most of the purchases. The stuff you don;t get with the season pass seem to be physical things or fluff. Just think some day soon you will be able to download your limited edition figures and print them on your home 3D printer.

Our forefathers of gaming and those corrupted anew are savaging what we once knew to be sacred. Stand up and speak brothers, spread the word of tyranny throughout the nexus. We must no longer accept the evil that has become of our once beloved passion. We must bring ourselves to abandon these wretched mongers of greed and confusion. We must fight for truth and justice, NO MATTER THE COST! WE MUST FIGHT TO REVENGE OUR FALLEN LOVE!

The American COD kids hold the future work models of gaming politics in their hands. You know? the ones that have so much money in their first world country that they are more than happy paying $40 for a 10 minute MGS demo.

We got it wrong when we said that there would be a gaming crash around the corner. But were close. Its not a gaming crash but total deprivation of gaming passion. Thanks to our hobby becoming so darn popular that they can now milk every penny out of the young demographic of gaming.

I have been gaming for 35 years. I have the money to go next gen.

Huzzah to those that know! I am but a young man, 21 years of age! But I remember the greatest of my days on this planet were spent playing original street fighter arcade games, and even those as simple as Galaga and Robotron. Praise be to Robotron! Goldenaxe! Castlevania! Metroid and the like!

The next generation of gaming is a sham! There is already generations of gaming far beyond our average console wars. Stand up! Deny the devils their dollar! We are being transgressed upon, and our culture is being disseminated! Stop giving them your damn money…I beg of you. I bought but a solemn few of only the best games for my playstation 3 in the last few years….and I too feel the pain and disappointment of lacking and ravenous games and their creators. Each of us that says

“FUCK EA GAMES! AND FUCK UBI!” And stops buying their overhyped, half-assed shit is a huge victory for our cause. Stop supporting the rich bastards that insist on milking our collective teet for everything it’s worth. OUR TEETS ARE WORTH MORE THAN THAT! Stop being noobz and resist the pwnage that is brought down upon you! Gamers must arise and be better! LEVEL UP MOTHER FUCKERS!

EXCEPT that it was called expansion packs and well worth the money. The game and whole business model was not built around it, the game was shipped COMPLETED, and depending on how well it done the EXPANSION PACK was then built and shipped COMPLETED

DLC and expansion packs are as different from one another as a bacon+avo+feta sammich and a cheese sammich (with b+a+f sammich being the expansion pack)

I just get annoyed cause gamers are like wired to be unhappy and complain. It’s like there’s a list of gripes that you are required to have as a gamer. It makes me feel like avoiding discussing this thing that I love with other gamers.

            May 13, 2014 at 10:50

So the trend in the gaming industry to milk the gamers rather than make good ‘complete’ (please note I use this term loosely) games does not annoy you, but you get annoyed about unhappy gamers?
Some of the best games I’ve played had little to NO DLC at all. The DLC, if you wanted to call it that, for FTL for example was released for FREE.
The industry is milking itself to a complete mess, and don’t even get me started on the damn mobile “gaming” (I use this term as a sarcastic joke) industry…

But, yeah, we both have some thoughts and points about this, so lets just leave it at that

I’ll get the standard edition (or digital if it’s more cost effective), get my 30+ hours worth, then move on to the next game.

I seldom buy DLC because my brain instantly starts thinking about the next game in the massive backlog when i see the credits roll.

At least people are debating things, The least I would expect from gamers, really. But get your damn brains straight. (some of you) Anyone who thinks “DLC” is acceptable in any way that is currently presented to us is just plain wrong. Its a blatant exploitation of the most essential desire of a gamer. To achieve the highest score, or have all the loot, or be the strongest you can be!
Anyone allowing themselves to spend MORE money on MORE content just to achieve loftily placed goals is absurd to me. Stop advocating F2P P2W games. IF we don’t all play our cards right, the future of gaming will quickly snowball into entirely unrecognizable formats functioning solely off of greed. The new age of gaming is here with us now. Participate in the future, or doom us all to the regulated ideas that all major companies seem to be adopting. Pay for a game, then pay for what we didn’t give you at first. KNOCK IT OFF.

please, for the sake of this art, and the enjoyment we all get out of it. DO THE RIGHT THINGS, and deny these assholes their extra buck, just so they can pump out another sub-par excuse for a full game that they claim consistently will be better with “DLC”
