While they haven’t let the hackers loose on their books yet to tell us exact numbers, Ubisoft has come out saying that Watch Dogs is the fastest selling Ubisoft game in the publisher’s history. I suppose that delay did actually mean the game is a better product, making people want to get their hands on it.
Watch Dogs Creative Director Jonathan Morin said:
I once said that the buzz around Watch Dogs was driven by the incredible passion of our early fans. Today we broke the record for the biggest first day sales in Ubisoft history. I can never say it enough: thank you everyone! We love you all for your passion and your creativity.
I am certainly excited about this game, Geoff just won’t stop raving to us about it. He keeps repeating the fact that even though he’s finished the game and written his review, he’s still looking forward to playing the game some more this weekend. Let me tell you, that’s quite an achievement and makes me even more excited to get my grubby paws on the PS4 version of this hacking delight.
I wonder how Watch Dogs will compare to Rockstar’s ridiculous record smashing success of GTA V. People are certainly in love with the open world sandboxes on offer, and it’s great to see games selling so quickly at launch – people aren’t waiting for sales, they need to play these games now. Considering the excellent reviews the game got, it seems it deserved all that hype.
Are you one of the people who helped Watch Dogs become the fastest selling Ubisoft game in history? Or will you be the one contributing to their longer term sales?

Long term sales for me
I ve been very wary of anything comming to pc , always seems patches glitches bugs , just this morning another website posted that watch doggs on pc having performance issues with pc’s that meet or exceed the required specs
I would prefer to play a game that works from start to finish , so I will be waiting for 3 month or so , when it’s around 300 bucks I will gladly pick it up

It’s mostly due to struggling with U(dont)Play. But also Too much of whats in the game feels like its just an Assassins Creed Mod.

Uplay constantly going down. huge FPS problems and plenty of Blue Screens around.

Then again when I finally get to play it I love it.
Got hacked last night and killed the bastard. Was quite thrilling.

PSA: Origin is giving away Battlefield 3 as part of their On the house promotion thing. Might be worth it, maybe…. I don’t know, I haven’t played any of them yet….

Bought it on ps4 and love every minute. Strange thing is I am constantly trying to do things were I don’t have the necessary skills yet, whaaaaaaaaa. You can just drive around the city for fun. Played about 8 hours but did not even finished act one yet. That is the beauty of these games, they are truly big. There is also much more substance to the side missions compared to other Ubisoft games. Will not buy a ubisoft game on PC ever, been there done that always issues. But on console what a pleasure and worth every penny.

If Geoff is that enamoured by the game, why the average score for it?
PS. I’m really fucking tired of Disqus trying to correct my spelling to “American English” when they couldn’t spell their product correctly.

8 is average? O_o
Skyblue
May 29, 2014 at 15:45
8 is pretty average in video game scores ie Play it but you won’t love it.
Mainstream games with seriously bad flaws seldom score less than 75. 80 is the average these days.
And don’t get me fucking started on IGN scores of 10 for games which get ranked in the mid 40’s or 50’s in their “best of last gen” titles. 10’s don’t exist and I have played all of them. Oh, and fuck IGN as well.

I like to believe I go for the full scale. I hate a review scale that starts at 7. 8 Is pretty fucking excellent.
Skyblue
May 29, 2014 at 15:56
I appreciate the honesty but still don’t buy it. Average movies score 50% overall, average games score 75-80… wait for it… on average. So any game that I see with an 80 average (which plays very little part in my purchasing decision ultimately), I still employ a try before you buy policy unless it’s it’s dirt cheap on Steam or GOG. And (I know I should not start sentences with that word), fuck season passes.
My opinion. right or wrong.
Exalted Overlord Geoffrey Tim
May 29, 2014 at 16:14
I think there are many reasons for that. With film they’re 2 hours of a reviewer’s time taken up- so just about everything gets reviewed. Games take a significantly larger time investment, so only the top tier stuff tends to even get looked at.
i do agree with the try before you buy stance, especially given how expensive games are; pity game demoes just aren’t prevalent any more.

Day 1 buy for me… I admit that I’m a big Ubisoft fan. But with Watch Dogs, I’ve even bought the Season Pass (first game I’ve EVER bought the season pass for!! And on Day 1, nogal!). I am quite taken with the world. The car physics aren’t perfect (comparing them to the open-world juggernaut that is GTAV, that is), but it doesn’t detract from the gameplay… Loving my time in virtual Chicago so far.
Can’t wait to get some quality time in this weekend.
