Watch Kinect Lag on Jimmy Fallon

Homerfacepalm

Kinect’s Main Public figure, Kudo Tsunoda went on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon to give Kinect it’s first public demonstration with its new, final name.

The show highlighted 3 things; name that Jimmy Fallon is awkward and not particularly funny, that Kudo Tsunoda needs a shave, and that Kinect – in its present form – is indeed quite laggy and twitchy. The most disconcerting bit of the video is watching Miranda Cosgrove’s Avatar begin jumping just as she lands. That’s an unacceptable amount of lag – and I really, really hope that gets fixed in the 6 months till launch.

Video after the jump.

Oh for sure, it does look like fun – but there are issues with the tech that definitely need to be worked out before it hits prime time.

Kinect just keeps getting better and better 🙂

    – Forced to stand to play any game or to use the UI.

    – Looks like it will have a R1500 price tag.

    – Cant detect wrist or finger movements like they lied and said it would.

    – Has more lag than i thought it did based on this vid and again they lied and cheated with pre rendered Star Wars vids. I wonder where all the Killzone 2 outrage is now?

    – According to an SA journalist on the Take2.co.za forums it couldnt detect him in a few games at E3 so we still dont know whether this works out of a MS controlled environment or even poorly lit rooms.

    – It looks like you have to keep a room in your own home empty just for Kinect.

Kinect sounds like a real winner

Wii games look fun too, and they are… for a while, until waggle fatigue hits and you just can’t stand “waggling”.

There’s no waggling a controller with the Kinect. Hence why it is so awesome

I was with the journo on the Take2 forums and saw it not detecting him which was really weird. There were about 6 of us in the room and he was the only one not being detected. The PR people there said he was the second guy that day to have this happen but you can’t really trust them now can you 😛

It picked me up perfectly right before, after and with him.

As for this video, I can’t actually watch it for some reason it won’t stream nicely. I played this game first hand and you do need to jump before the avatar jumps but you will see the hurdle start flashing when you need to jump and as long as you jump then it works.

It was a lot of fun to be honest and something I will be picking up later this year.
