Watchdogs contains sex, nudity, drugs and alcohol

Using my hacking skills for good

The latest ESRB rating for Watchdogs has been released and if you are into sex, nudity, drugs, violence and alcohol then you are welcome to pop around this weekend or else you will need to hold out a little longer to get your kicks from Watchdogs which will release soon.

The official ESRB statement goes as follows

“This is third-person shooter/action game in which players assume the role of Aiden Pearce, a hacker trying to find an evil mastermind. Players use pistols, machine guns, assault rifles, and explosives to kill various human enemies (e.g., criminals, police officers). When close to an enemy, players are able to shoot them in the head or knock them out with a black jack. Players have the ability to kill captives after (mostly) off-screen interrogations. Cutscenes depict further instances of violence (e.g., a man stabbed in the neck and shot multiple times). Combat is highlighted by cries of pain, blood-splatter effects, and realistic gunfire. The game includes several depictions of topless female characters. One prolonged scene depicts a topless women standing in a bedroom; another sequence depicts close-ups of topless women sitting down. The game also includes a few instances of sexual activity, including an obscured depiction of masturbation; a woman performing fellatio on a man; and a man thrusting against a woman from behind—camera angles obscure the sex act and no nudity is shown. During the course of the game, the central character is sometimes consumes large amounts of alcohol (the screen turns blurry); one sequence depicts characters using needles to inject themselves with drugs. The words “f**k,” “sh*t,” and “a*shole” can be heard in the dialogue.”

Unsurprisingly the game has been given an M in America and will almost certainly receive the full 18 ranking from our very own fpb.

But what I’m most interested to find out is whether or not the game will get a full release in Australia who are notoriously strict on anything drug related. The reason Fallout had such a hard time in Australia was directly related to the drug use and Watchdogs will include

“one sequence depicts characters using needles to inject themselves with drugs”

Besides the expected controversy that the right wing nut jobs are going to raise I don’t think there is anything overly shocking here.

But I will take a moment to bet that Watchdogs will be a very strong Game of the Year contender.

The only things keeping me from the pre-ordering this:

    – Length of the SP play
    – Will there be bugs…

Apparently it will take you some time to finish….. 35-40 hours on average is brilliant

Interesting… “Everything” might include hidden packages and all that BS though…

Are there side quests separate from the mainstory you get from other people?

I am still very interested in the game though. I think it will be awesome.

I don’t have a clue, but I need this game to be awesome all the same!! If it takes 15+ hours I am happy, as long as the story line is intriguing I am in!!

You make a good point… I am getting close to a pre-order for this one.

I think I might just give it a little bit more time to see reviews a few days before.

            April 15, 2014 at 11:22

That is more or less my pre-order policy from last year, wait for a few reviews go in to BT Games and pre order if reviews make me happy!!

            April 15, 2014 at 11:24

I recommend Kalahari over BT Games… To be honest I have NEVER dealt with BT and NOT had a bad experience. Literally every single time I have been treated like shit… So I avoid them, but Kalahari is normally cheapest and does release day delivery for pre-orders.

          • Kensei Seraph

            April 15, 2014 at 11:30

I have only had Kalahari give me good service once.
Every other time they’ve delivered late or goods were content and I was told to contact the developer/publisher.

However BT Games have never failed.

I’m with you I only use BT or Takealot and that is all for me!!

          • UltimateNinjaPandaDudeGuy

            April 15, 2014 at 11:34

Luck of the draw I guess… Kalahari have upped their service levels though. On Twitter they respond quickly too.

Will keep using them till they fail me really. TakeALot is also very good, but always a bit more expensive than Kalahari.

          • Mossel

            April 15, 2014 at 13:52

Yeah I think TakeAlot charges R540 for Watch_Dogs and Kalahari R420… that’s a substantial difference. I only had one “bad” experience with kalahari and it was this Titanfall thing where everyone abused them, so I’m not really mad. Takealot on the other hand has taken 6 weeks after the delivery date of a cd only to notify my that they can’t give it anymore because their supplier doesn’t have it.

          • Jonah Cash

            April 15, 2014 at 11:33

I have had a bad run in with Kalahari…. They screwed up an order of mine to the point where after 3 weeks I had to cancel it an just got it from Takealot for R25 more!! Guess it depends where one has been burnt before!!

          • UltimateNinjaPandaDudeGuy

            April 15, 2014 at 11:35

Agreed… I normally just speak to them over Twitter and they get stuff resolved really quickly. At least we have the option of competition though. Imagine if we were stuck with one o.O

Never understood how Bandai Games could make a game that would be banned in the same country. LA Noir full on nudity and pubic hair.

I suppose its the same as China making consoles for the big three that are banned in the same country. Funny world.

Yet they are very proud of MAD MAX being shot in their country that everybody gets to see it. MAD MAX has some of the worst violence in film let alone in a videogame.
Those old baby boomers that are running the country need to get with the times.

Watchdogs contains sex, nudity, drugs, alcohol and DRM.

    Support safe sex.
Support the people who likes the freedom of being nude.
Support drugs that reduces cancer growth, like Weed.
Support responsible alcohol usage, to keep the blood flowing

    Do not support DRM

LoL, in the mid 80’s maybe…seriously, Tipper Gore? The PMRC hasn’t been a threat for quite some time. No right now the biggest threat for censorship is SOPA/PIPA variants, first introduced by Lamar Alexander (R-Texas).

The game is rated for adults, not children. If children get their hands on it, the fault rests with the parents, not with the game. That’s why games are rated, so that parents can make even semi-informed decisions (because you know, they can’t be bothered to do anything more than perform a cursory glance of a box to know if it contains content that’s suitable for children).
