Velocity 2X

Developers love to claim they are getting the most out of a piece of equipment as it shows they are really good at what they are doing. It also shows that they’re are going to be offering their customers, gamers, the very best experience possible.

However most of the time we find out that these statements are untrue, as the next big game eclipses it graphically and the claims continue. It is entirely different to see a developer claiming they can’t even see the ceiling with their current game and that is exactly what the developers behind the PlayStation exclusive, Velocity 2X, are stating.

Now to be fair the game isn’t a ultra-realistic graphical masterpiece like The Last of Us but it is lightning quick and there is a lot more happening that you may not see at first.

Speaking to Gamngbolt the Managing Director of FuturLab, James Marsden had this to say

“We’re not getting anywhere near the ceiling on PS4, so we can throw as many particles, lights and explosions at is as the artists want and PS4 just obeys!”

When pushed further he continued to state

“That’s correct (no challenges). No problems whatsoever. The engine was created by Andy Yelland, who has 20 years experience working on AAA game projects. He’s normally a trouble shooter, meaning that he gets hired by the big guys to solve problems they either can’t solve or don’t have time to solve. He’s like a one man A-Team. He created the engine for Velocity 2X for PS Vita and PS4, so from that side of things we were in good hands. The same engine was used for Surge Deluxe on PS Vita”

When asked why this game was a PlayStation exclusive he was quite clear with his opinion on this

“Sony fosters talent in a way that you don’t see anywhere else in the industry. The result is that PlayStation invests in videogames as a medium, and that’s why we’ve chosen to work with them.”

Which just reinforces what we’ve been hearing about Sony since the PlayStation 4 was originally announced. It’s all about the game.

Indeed. But I think they are referring more to the particle engine and stuff being solid and that there’s a whole lot of scalability.

Sony did make a big scene about their console being able to render an almost infinite amount of particles

same, but R700 a game though.
Not particularly keen on spending R6000+ on a glorified bluray player, which is what my ps3 is atm.

If/when the Rand gets a bit stronger and if that has a decent impact on the price of ps4 games, I might consider it…

To be fair, the game doesnt honestly have that many particles, but it is nice to hear that they not getting anywhere near the ceiling.

Would be nice to have an app that could help out with rendering of 3D objects, especially since workstation cards cost so much.
