What Bioshock would look like on Unreal Engine 4

Unreal Engine 3 was the stand out engine in the last generation with some of the best games being powered by the truly remarkable engine from Epic.

The engine was used to power incredible games like Gears of War, Borderlands, Mass Effect and Injustice:Gods Among Us. However it’s not just a graphical powerhouse it was also used for some less graphical hungry games such as Zumba for kids.

What’s more amazing is that the engine was utilised on pretty much every platform from PC to all the console and even Android and iOS.

So there is understandably a lot of expectation around the next iteration of the engine, Unreal Engine 4.

We’ve already seen the incredible particle effects of the engine but now a fan has gone and put together a version of Bioshock if it was created using this new engine.

As a start this is what the original Bioshock looked like.

Original Bioshock

That was written using a modified version of the Unreal Engine 2.5

They then created Bioshock Infinite on the Unreal Engine 3 which looked like this.

Both of which are very good looking games but obviously I wouldn’t be writing this if I didn’t feel the new version was quite a lot further ahead.

Now remember the shot above is from when the developers knew exactly how to get the very best out of the engine and this one below is a hobbyist (AFAIK) attempt using the brand new engine so it’s only going to get a lot better for all of us.

I could live with games looking like this.

I won’t mind at all. As long as they don’t spend all their time making it look like that instead of making it fun.
