What is the big Sony announcement that the Internet is raving about?

According to the rumours Sony are about to make a huge global announcement tomorrow about something… Obviously this instantly gets everyone into a frenzy about a possible PS3 price cut and that does seem to be the most obvious answer.

There has already been leaked proof that the PS2’s price is being dropped to $99 in the US and the idea of slashing prices across the board seems entirely feasible.

However with the PS3 currently costing $399 in the states how much would Sony need to slash the price by to make it a truly compelling purchase for the mainstream gamers out there?

The other rumoured option is that Sony will be releasing a new browser with extra online content which possibly sounds like the poorest “Global Announcement” around and if true would make this Sony’s Pac-man debacle…

My money is on the announcement revolving around a new exclusive title for the PS3 as I can’t see them announcing a price drop after GDC and 2 months before E3, it wouldn’t give them enough of a PR blow in my mind.

Only time will tell though and we will be sure to update you as soon as something solid is announced.

There is no way Sony could increase the price of the PS3 and keep it in the game… is there?

They need to be profitable, and currently
they are loosing money, so either no increase
or a slight increase and have them make money (loosing market share) but knowing that they can focus on staying in the console race for a
    long time.

more importantly why would sony make a big song and dance about a price increase… surely thats something they would do quietly, very quietly.

i reckon sony are going to announce a minor price cut, and maybe a new psn service or revamped xmb. nothing that’ll get most gamers out of bed

Pretty sure it just a PS2 price cut, the big 3 are famous for hyping up crap that no-one actually cares about.

A new game? i doubt it as that’s what GDC and E3 are really for.

Normally they cut prices for multiple platforms all at the same time as they all contribute to the same divisions numbers, so there’s an outside chance the PS3 may get a price cut as well.

If i could choose something i would choose a FW upgrade that allows 3D gaming as they showed early this year.

Probably gonna announce the new firmware 2.70 thats my theory.. in game cross chat. But there will be a catch… paid subscription

Thats what i would do if i was Sony get people to pay for subscriptions and lower the entry level for PS3 by about R500

If its cheaper more people will buy it, meaning more people will go online to pay and play, and bob’s your uncle lost profit recovered by online subscriptions! Its simple. No wonder MS is coining 😛
