What Mass Effect news will Bioware reveal on N7 day tomorrow?

MassEffect

Tomorrow, November 7th is N7  day – a day to celebrate the 7th anniversary of the release of one of my very favourite gaming franchises from the last generation, Mass Effect. I don’t think there’s a single overarching series of games that got me so emotionally invested in so many characters. In celebration of N7 Day, Bioware is hosting a  Developer Roundtable that’ll be streamed all over the internet. Could they reveal some new information about the next game in the series?

It’s on tomorrow, at 10am Pacific Time, which is tomorrow at 8pm in local time. You’ll be able to watch the stream here. Presumably, they’ll be discussing a few things related to the Mass Effect universe, quite ostensibly spilling details on the new game. And, as loathe as I am for remakes, if there’s one series I would happily replay all gussied up for a new generation, it would have to be Mass Effect. The original game was released as an Xbox 360 exclusive back in November 2007, and now, 7 years on, would be  a great time for a re-release.

If not news of a remaster, I’d happily gobble up any new information on the new game, which is definitely not Mass Effect 4. Officially announced at this year’s E3, the game will be running on Frostbite 3 engine, much like the imminent Dragon Age: Inqusition.

“To call the next game ‘Mass Effect 4’ or ‘ME4’ is doing it a disservice and seems to cause a lot of confusion here.,” BioWare community manager Chris Priestly said of the new game. “We have already said that the Commander Shepard trilogy is over and that the next game will not feature him/her. That is the only detail you have on the game. I see people saying ‘well, they’ll have to pick a canon ending.’ No, because the game does not have to come after. Or before. Or off to the side. Or with characters you know. Or yaddayaddayadda. Wherever, whenever, whoever, etc will all be revealed years down the road when we actually start talking about it. I do not call the game ME4 when I talk about it ever, [because] that makes people think of it more as ‘what happens after ‘Mass Effect 3’ rather than ‘what game happens next set in the ‘Mass Effect’ Universe. Obviously fans are going to speculate content, character and story until we actually reveal details in the years or months to come as you have almost no actual details, just don’t get bogged down in ‘well how are they going to continue ME3.’”

What are you hoping to hear from Bioware’s N7 day stream? Would you jump up and down like an excited child for a remaster of Shepherd’s trilogy, or are you more keen to see what’s next for the Mass Effect Universe?

I haven’t finished 3 yet!!! I don’t know why but I swear it has something to do with not having the DLC

If you take the internet average, the DLC maximizes ending-satisfaction by approx. 232.8%.

I want a new Shepard so bad it hurts. I’m literally spewing garbage statistics just to make a comment about how I want more Shepard. Did I tell you about how I really want more Shepard?

I actually would love to be able to play as the descendant of your Shephard and the partner of your choice. *cough*Liara*cough*
It would mean that the save I carried all the way through from ME1 to ME3 would actually have some use.

Maybe not the 1st generation descendant, but the 10th or 11th generation
(unless you chose correctly) to allow for them to set the canon
regarding some of the more minor and divisive choices.
We’d also get to see the result of the choices made surrounding the Krogans.

WHY DOES THIS NOT EXIST YET!!!

wouldnt say it has some of the most powerful moments, but it really brings a sense of how long its been and far youve all come together.
you could do a 2 day rush of the trilogy and still find the stuff in the citadel DLC nostalgic.

The only reason “most” people say its good; is because they totally rejected the ending that is ME3. Then head cannoned their own ending, playing the Citadel DLC as closure to how they wanted it to end..

Citadel is worth every cent especially if you’ve been invested since ME1, Leviathan narratively is very intriguing and might perhaps be the biggest piece in solving the Reaper puzzle had Bioware only bothered to include it in the main story. Omega not so much unless you play femshep and have a HLA obsession with Aria.

I dunno, Leviathan never really debunked the indoctination theory or said its true.. Lets just face it, if Mac Walter co writes again I’m gonna burn “ME4” with fire!

            That DLC felt so pointless…

          • Aussious

            November 6, 2014 at 22:26

Maybe not but it gave us a lore origins to the reapers and even explains where indoctrination originated from.

            November 7, 2014 at 06:30

Starbrat already clarified where indoctrination came from in the end. Even to why the reapers look the way they do. This dlc was just filler.

I want to hear more quotes like :
“Experience the beginning, middle, and end of an emotional story unlike any other, where the decisions you make completely shape your experience and outcome.”
“I’m always leery of saying there are ‘optimal’ endings, because I think one of the things we do try to do is
make different endings that are optimal for different people”
“There are many different endings. We wouldn’t do it any other way. How could you go through all three
campaigns playing as your Shepard and then be forced into a bespoke ending that everyone gets? But I can’t say any more than that…”
“Every decision you’ve made will impact how things go. The player’s also the architect of what happens.”
“We have a rule in our franchise that there is no canon. You as a player decide what your story is.”

See, now obviously that last one is false.
In order for it to be true they would have needed to make at least 6 different versions of ME2 and you would need to buy the one that corresponds with how you played and then even more versions for ME3.

Not interested in a prequel – they’re silly. Not interested in a side-quel – because “hey guess what Shepard just did!” is irritating. You’re on a deep space mission & come across a previously unknown mass relay that whisks you off somewhere new & adventure ensues. Oh, but it’s still EA. Never mind.

I am busy with my 4th play-through of ME1. Going for the LVL 60 achievement, then after that my Insanity achievement. Not even WoW had me this interested in achievement-hunting! I would really consider getting a remake/HD version on current gen consoles!

Every time I make a turn on Taris,, chat with Bastillas’ daughter, or run into HK-47 & Revan in The Old Republic, I get nostalgic to play the original KOTOR games again, though I’ve yet to make it past the intro levels in either.

If they bring out remastered & fully realised versions, either for PC or console? Day one purchase. Hell, if they skip PC, that’d be what gets me to buy either an XBone or PS4, that’s how much I’d love to play a properly remastered KOTOR.

A remastered Mass Effect with all the DLC would be cool, but not something I’d bother with tbh, not unless they added new content. They really wouldn’t have to add much at all, but they would have to add something new, given there isn’t an existing DLC I *haven’t* bought for the series.

I would love a remake of the original trilogy.

Having said that, if I had to choose, I’d definitely side with getting a brand new Mass Effect game. Most definitely, on the whole, my favourite series of games EVER! Filled with so much winning! And I’d love them to continue that with the next installment.

I would keep it and cherish it so that one day I could show my kids what Talimancing is.

The ME universe is so rich and engaging, flogging the Shepard horse would be a disservice.

I always love those “First Contact” situations, there must be tons of games around that alone.

Yeah but “First Contact” will only work as some sort of DLC,not a main title, everybody knows the outcome of the war, though playing as a turian in that time will kick some major ass!!
