I have had some time to really poke around with the new Xbox 360 and I have a lot of details to share, including everything from its basic specs to some new features, and even a few things you didn’t know.

Hit the jump for all the juicy information.

Ok so here is the basics that you need to know.

  • Will be released for the same price as the current Elite
  • Is very quite compared to the previous 360 models. Almost silent.
  • Looks sexy
  • Built in 802.11m Wi-Fi
  • Comes with a Kinect specific port which removes the need for external power for the Kinect unit.
  • Optical Audio port added to the back of the console.

What you didn’t know

  • The CPU and GPU have been merged
  • The hard drive is stored inside the unit and can be accessed through the base.
  • The new hard drive is much smaller
  • All of the buttons on the face are touch sensitive and make a unique sound when pressed.
  • There are no more memory card slots
  • The unit now has 3 USB ports in the back and 2 in the front.
  • Will not ship with HD cables
  • The vents on the side are for increased cooling
  • The controller has had some minor changes made to the aesthetics, and now has black thumbsticks and base.

So apart from a few minor differences, basically it’s doing what the PS3 did at launch? Except that it still has proprietry hard drives, no blu-ray player, still an external power supply, no HD cables etc. :getlost:

    I eat my words.
    Guess it was real.

You know, alot of these leaked picks of new hardware that comes out is I’d say about 80% real.
Some of the “Leaked Pics” that turned out real
PS3 slim, “Xbox Slim”, iPhone 4 to name a few.

I wonder if they leaked the pics on purpose before E3 just to get more attention.

Merged CPU and GPU? Whats that? All one one chip? Won’t that slow it down? Very pretty though, still got my original 20gig pro, think it’s time for an upgrade.

At least it doesnt look like the same cheap plastic like the PS3 slim has. I still have the PS3 Phat and boy that is some solid piece of work compared to the cheap looking PS3 slims out there.

It really reminds me of one of those old electrical plugs. I will concede though that wi-fi is a definite plus (I’ll only be convinced that it’s indeed quiet when I see it), but other than that I’m not impressed. This would have been an excellent opportunity for the box to finally go blu ray.

Hey Nick if you get the chance to ask somebody in the know please ask them what HDMI port the new slim uses. The old 1.2, 1.3 or 1.4 HDMI port.

No. Don’t worry it doesn’t work like that. In more simple terms: They’ve just reduced the CPU and GPU size so small that they can fit both on one chip. Then again the chip could be 10cm x 10cm.

Technically it could actually make things a little quicker – but don’t expect that at all.

Quote from engadget “A lot of things have stayed the same for connectivity, including that HDMI port, which is sadly not getting an upgrade to 1.4”. So it the HDMI is what ever it was before.

I think MS probably already made took a new DVD rom drive that will render this hack proof for the next 5 months… maybe less
