Here is something that I found very suprising.
For the three months leading up to September EA Games platform sales came in at an exceptionally healthy $435 million.
In their latest financial papers EA Games has broken this figure down by platform and the results are interesting…
Xbox 360 – $218 million
PlayStation 2 – $73 million
Nintendo Wii – $59 million
Nintendo DS – $47 million
PlayStation Portable – $21 million
PlayStation 3 – $17 million
The Xbox 360 accounts for 51% of all console title sales for EA Games, so the next time someone asks why they are developing for the Xbox 360 and porting over to the other platforms remind them of this.
Lets not even start with those PlayStation 3 numbers….

Wow, I knew Xbox 360 was a leader, this just proves it in black ‘n white.

interesting… I was convinced that the PS2 would have still had a small lead.

Wait for it…. While I must say those are impressive figures I dont think they are surprising.
What titles did EA bring out in those three months?
If for an example it was Madden, then it makes sense, as madden = USA and xbox = USA.

What that does not tell you is how many games have been released for each console over that same period.

..and take in the huge number of modded PS2’s out there…

Now I see why EA is putting some decent effort into Medal of Honour: Heroes2.
The Wii gets EA more money than the PS3. 🙂

@J4, fair comment about PS2 mods, also makes you wonder about 360 mods.
While Madden is a biggie, so is Fifa (probably not as big though), and technically didn’t they release rugby 08 in the same time frame on PS2/PC only? (Woohoo! big seller that one 😉 )
EA also try to remain platform agnostic ie they release everything on every platform, although with those numbers I reckon Microsoft’s got a good shot at convincing them to keep Mass Effect Exclusive. If they could give Rockstar $50million to keep GTAIV “unexclusive” ….They could effectively buy out EA’s PS3 division 3 times over! 😉

Theres no denying that those Xbox360 figures are impressive but…almost all the games that EA released for the PS3 had major technical issues so this could be one part of the puzzle. Maybe if EA starts releasing decent PS3 versions of their games they would get more sales.EA, please refer to Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty 4 for more information

abev has a point. EA’s biggest title recently has been Madden, which I assume sells little in EU and probably isn’t even released in JPN.

Well it makes business sense to relase your biggest grossing title in the biggest market you have the best chance to make bucks in.
@Papa – EA sees the market share in the US with the X360 at a much higher ratio vs the PS3 gamers. Why would they bother spending $$$ optimizing PS3 games while they could save it? Its all business after all.

I would say it’s Madden specific, Unfortunately this is only part of the numbers. having a look at this weeks VGChart figures, Guitar hero III and Simpsons specifically as they were multiplatform releases, 360 SKU is still outselling everything else, by a fair margin.
