Why 3D Gaming will never work

3D Gaming

Take a look at the image up there, it isn’t a bad picture or meant to be used as a point against the PS3’s dodgy graphics, it is in fact Gran Turismo being played in full 4D 3D.

To view the full beauty of the title you have to put on some wonderful 3D glasses, not to unlike these ones.

3D Glasses

Quite styling if you ask me.

Anyway the fact that you look like a right tw*t isn’t the reason that this type of gaming will never take off, I’m pointing at the Wii to prove this point.

The reason it won’t ever take off is because it doesn’t work for me. At all.

You see my left eye is a little dodgy and as such the glasses don’t create a 3D effect for me, rather they create a wash of colours all in the wrong place and subsequently make me feel ill.

And I don’t even wear glasses and according to an optometrist have near perfect dual vision. I am not unique either, lots of people in the world have lazy eyes and can’t view 3D movies, images or those silly fuzzy things you need to squint at.

Sony has been showing off this new technology at CES and the initial reactions are great, but I really don’t believe this is new. They have been trialling 3D movies for years and mark my words, it will never move out of being a niche market technology.

Not until they can replicate 3D without the need for the silly glasses.

Sony, how abouts stopping with this development and putting more effort into reducing the cost of the original PS3 so that we can all have one without getting that second job.

its just a proof of concept demo, and i think its good that companies do this.
as for it not working for people with wonky eyes is tantamount to saying console controllers wont work because all the people out there with only one arm!

Lol, the 3D is brilliant and it’s seems very dodgy that you didn’t post the picture of the ACTUAL glasses which are all over the net. Whilst they may not be exactly “cool” they are a hell of a lot better than what you posted.

Hey Lazy, is that a bit of jealousy that is creeping into your article? Won’t be the fist time…

Agreed, it seems like another bash PS3 article. I particularly they way they call sony’s graphics dodgy! And they way 4D is crossed our to add spit!

Call me crazy but perhaps 5 years ago the same article could have been written about motion sensor games never working!

Also about 3D being niche, perhaps if more movies were made in 3D it would be so niche!

I’m a huge 3d movie fan. The new gen of 3d movies are brilliant. I cannot wait to spend money on a 3d home setup!

If we’re going to play that game, then I’m going to join in 😉 Magic Carpet 2 had a 3D version in the game as well (using glasses too)… and here we are talking a 1995 game release.

Yeah, is cool. Though Johnny Lee was the 1st guy to actually do this and a few very cool other things with the wiimote.

Whats the difference? Its lame glasses that you put on your face to play games. If they look like stuff out of a lucky packet or Ray-Bans, they are still lame

Yeah unfortunately it used reg/blue lenses, not differently polarized lenses, it looked terrible.

I didn’t post those glasses because they are sitting on top of the original journalists face and I wasn’t sure about the legalities of such a move.

I did however post a link to the original article for you all to see the original glasses.

As for the anti-PS3 comments… words have abandoned me 🙁

stereoscopic 3D is *years* old, and any decent graphics card can render the “special 3D” image …. really ….. how is this news?

you sure about that… games need to make another leap into the future, and I don’t know what that’s going to be, but 3D would be a good assumption… I think the whole wiidesktop thing would be a much better movement then the glasses idea.
interestingly enough, I would assume that tv’s would need to get a lot bigger for the wiidesktopVR thing though 🙁
