Something that only really hit me this week, is the fact that I haven’t bothered to put my Modern Warfare 2 disc into my console at any point in this fine year of 2010.
You see, the last time I played Modern Warfare 2 was right before I left for my vacation in December, which also happened to be around the same time that the infamous javelin glitch was doing the rounds.
While I was gone, they got it sorted and although I haven’t purposefully avoided the game, I really couldn’t care to play it again any time soon.
Here’s why.
Firstly, balance.
Never in my life have I seen a game that has suffered from such unbalanced gameplay. Sure, Infinity Ward meant well when they decided to add a ton of new features, weapons, kill-streaks and so on but the truth is that in the end some very ugly combinations have popped up.
I can truthfully say that I have never in my life seen a games balance get this out of control before. Usually there is a hiccup here and there but it’s nothing major.
Games are supposed to be competitive but fun yet it seems like everyone is just jumping onto the latest “L33t haXXor” class setups so that they can get a kajillion kills and be proud of themselves when they go to sleep at night.
Second issue is most definitely the glitches.
Since I was exposed to the javelin glitch, things really took off. In the time that I haven’t been playing it feels like I hear about new glitches every week. Ammo glitches, flying glitches and now some new kid on the block that can screw with other peoples stats. Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer is in some serious hell at the moment and Infinity Ward seem to be scrambling to chase glitch after glitch.
The really scary thing is that in most cases, you could just tell me to stop sucking or “join ’em” or something but I’m not even playing the game. I have people constantly telling me about issues, glitches and people exploiting the game to the point where it sounds crazy to want to actually play the game again.
At the end of the day I know that Modern Warfare 2 is a really good showing from Infinity Ward and their multilplayer experiences are in a league of their own, but they really, seriously need to start sorting the game out.
They need to do whatever it takes. Bring in a massive patch, rebalance everything and if possible, prevent further exploits from happening. I feel sorry for Infinity Ward, I really do. The guys are working hard to create great games but it’s the gamers who are constantly on the lookout for the latest exploit or cheap tactic to score a neat kill/death ratio.
I want to play the game again, it’s fun, but with news like this circulating every day and people constantly complaining about what other players are doing that annoys them, I’d rather play something else, something that won’t involve me swearing out of frustration at my TV when yet another nuke goes off because some morons are boosting each others kills.
I thought that I would get this off my chest after seeing yet another article about issues, patches and glitches but I want to hear it from all the Modern Warfare 2 players out there. Is the game out of control? Are your experiences actually fun and quite normal or are you getting sick and tired of all the issues surrounding the game?

i’ll still play (and enjoy) mw2, but the honeymoon is over and i’m beginning to see the warts and blemishes come through.

Ummm…. OK I agree with the whole camping and noob tubing thing. I hate people who do that, but the thermal sniping thing… really? It’s a sniper rifle!!! It’s made for long range. And the thermal scope makes heat visible from up to 1300 m. It’s not like the sniping levels are THAT big.

I feel the same way. Why do people have to exploit a game to get more kills etc. It just proves that they are garbage anyways. Glitchers, campers take the fun out of a decent game but I hope IW fixes all this crap b/c we all payed for this game and we deserve better or at least a free map pack download or something. IW has to give us the gamers something in return for this inconsistency. They didnt even have beta testing…what does that say about them??

Bad Company 2 will have the one thing MW2 is lacking: TEAMWORK. The best you can hope for in MW2 is Team Camping. There is just to much focus on killstreaks to merit moving or covering your mates in assaults or defense.

I went on holiday at level 29. I came back after a few weeks at the same level, but with everyone else at level 60 on Prestige 3+. Despite me playing well sometimes, I still feel like such a noob with that damn number next to my name.
Plus, it is SUCH a freaking mission to find a game with available spots.

I’m only on level 30 , will jump in again soon as my ylod is fixed. But there is no real motivation if the game’s fun is spoiled.

I was hoping BC was going to kill CoD4 as it was a pretty good game, but it just never seemed to take off. IW has got the market and they hold on to it for awhile.
I also haven’t really played a lot of CoD MW2 MP besides some Spec Ops

Don’t you guys find that the lag with the Battlefield console games is horrible, and there’s no getting away from it due to the dedicated servers all being overseas?
I dunno – I’ve played BF in the states and I’ve played it here, and there’s a massive dealbreaking lag over here and there is no way you will convince me that load balancing on the servers makes it ok because then you might as well just be playing against bots.
I will definitely stick to the locally hostable MW2 due to the BF lag. Unless bc2 allows p2p type hosting…

If you play with an unshaped account then the lag isn’t that bad at all and prices have dropped significantly for unshaped lately.
I play MW2 through matchmaking anyways, so it’s all the same for me tbh.

Hrmmm… I have been religiously playing the game, and thoroughly enjoy it… Granted, I have not ever come across blatent glitchers.
I hear alot of complaints about balance etc, but as far as i see it, baring if my lag sucks, it always comes down to “can i pull the trigger faster than the other bloke”, and since im not arthritic (yet) i do ok.

We play this 2 -4 times a week, on PSN.
No issues. Had lekker local only lobbies last night, ni glitchers no haxors and no lag. Just pure fps fun.

no lag? i get a lot of lag, while it’s not thaaat bad, it’s still noticeable. the anti-lag thing works but only to a point. btw i play on a 4mb line, shaped unfortunately.
and its not just me, most of my mates have the same problem… or it could be we all making excuses 😉

The new patch has completely messed things up even more. It takes even longer to find a game than before. When you finally find a game and it goes to the lobby for intermission the host bombs out. It happens every-time.

Dont forget the very well disguised lag…on my screen It always seems like only one round takes me down and then on the kill cam it shows the guy unloading a 10 rounds in me. Barely was aware of the guy. Its also very evident on the final kill cam where where it shows the guy aiming in another area and it somehow kills him..terrible, but very well hidden.

yup. i notice it when i’m unloading an entire clip on some one, and thinking wtf why is he not dead, only to find out after he’s disappeared around some corner he’s dead and i get +50.
i think its designed to work that way.

lol… been got rid of MW2… as stated in previous posts it takes no skill… its too easy to kill or be killed… i ended up getting BC, shooter wise since then i havent looked back… cant wait for BC2… im not too sure but somebody posted something about how they prefer p2p… thats all good, but p2p just ends up having a host with the most thing going on.,, definitly not fun…

Strange… I have been playing this for quite some time and I haven’t encountered any glitching or hacking or whatever. The net code is outstanding, this is the first game where international lag is bearable. I guess it’s about the crowd you are playing with.

Nick buddy there’s your problem – you play intl matchmaking, I haven’t seen a local dude glitch – he’d get de-friended real quick I reckon.
Also – about my lag comment earlier – after playing it in the US I have to stand by it – I play on unshaped here – and not the garbage IS “unshaped” that axxess tries to sell people – the slightly better saix unshaped. You can’t get away from the lag and if it doesn’t feel like it’s lagging it’s because the netcode is predicting the moves or holding the other player back in time in relation to you …

I have not played the game online in over a month for all the same reasons you have talked about. The game is extremely unbalanced and the glitches are out of control. Just don’t kid yourself into feeling sorry for Infinity Ward. The game has become the fourth best selling game and they are printing money from the sales of the game.. Because of that it is the target to all the “haxors”.

I play it still to hang out with my friends but the glitches aren’t as bad as the camping or OneManArmy constant grenade launchers.
To so many players MW2 is all about camping, period. No teamwork, no tactical play, just camp solo and start exploiting killstreak perks.
And then there’s the lag switchers who mess with their connection so much the game locks up! They can’t shoot so they lag their connection until we all leave… way to win a match against an empty lobby.

game is utter shit, the only reason i still pop it in the very little times that i actually play. is because i just want to reach my final prestige. without the stupid glitch that everyone did. and im at 9, so i want to finish, after that im done. and handing it over to my brother so he doesnt have to waste his money. i warned everyone about MW2 going to suck real bad. no one listened, looked like i was right. y did i buy it? i didnt, my brother bought it for me.
If i didnt have OCD and all sorts of other things wrong with me,, i wouldnt still be playing this game, all i hear all game long is a bunch of people bitching and yelling. and im one of those gamers that dont complain about ne thing, and if i die, i will blame myself for not doing better. but in this game, spawns are at a level of its own,
i remember playing UC2, talking about how the spawnns were stupid and needed fixing, MW2 came out, and boy it made UC2 spawns look way much better. MW2 spawns is the reason i always die. i always watch 2 kill-cams, i watch my kill-cam of them killing me, and their kill-cam of me killing them just 2 seconds ago, and them respawning.

Mate, I’m with you all the way. This is the result of no open beta testing sadly, they cashed in on the success of COD4 and walked away from proper play testing which has left the fan based pretty pissed off and rightly so.
I’m level 70 myself in the Multiplayer – I wanted to stick it out and give the game a fair go, but in the end I gave up in disgust and walked away.
The glitches suck
The noob tube/akimbo shotguns/knifing completely kills the ‘modern warfare’ concept
The perks/achieves/kill streaks reward SOLO play tactics and camping is the norm.
Whilst the game itself has excellent polish, sharp visuals and the weapons feel awesome, they are all over shadowed by the bigger issues which are killing the multiplayer environment completely.
I’m already back to playing the original Bad Company which presents far better multiplayer gameplay and with BC2 due out in just a few short weeks, the days of MW2 are well and truly numbered I think. :unsure:

At long last COD is getting slated and it deserves too, it is the most overhyped and overatted shooter of all time, and how anyone can rate over Battlefield is a clown. BAttlefield ticks all the boxes (vehicles, destrucbale enviro’s and NO CAMPING) and has done since its debut on pc to ps2 and now ps3.
The thing that makes me laugh is that Kovic wanted COD to retail at £59.99 and he prodcues a lame Single player and a disgusting looking and feeling game online!

I duno what to make of the game at the moment. I mean camping all comes down to the game type i mean i worship search and destroy and to be honest i havnt found any more camping in that compared to the first on! Saying that it is much more noob accessible….between the heart beat monitor, thermal scope, and noob tubes as secondary weapons, AND way over powered kill streak rewards!!
But hey its still good fun to own people with and AC 130 🙂

I reckon, the fact that Modern Warfare 2 hit the billion dollar mark, means that Modern Warefare 3 will be even more of a melon. It’s the same trend of wash and repeat we saw with the Guitar Hero games, a few graphical tweaks here and there but fundamentally it’s the same game.

I cannot agree more, I am still a bit of a noob at MW2, but I do exactly as you say. If something is pissing you off you have a gun, go and shoot something.

I don’t know but I must be playing a different version of MW2 than the rest of you. Being in the UK I’m playing exclusively international (doh!) games and have not once been in a game where glitching was evident. Hell I play almost every night and to be honest every glitch I have heard of I’ve seen first on video through this blog. Javelin glitch – no never in a game I’ve played, class noob tube glitch – saw on this blog for the first time.

i play int’l too and run into some glitchers or lag switchers once a night. then the glitch is posted somewhere and then the next day every game has someone using the glitch until it’s patched.
