Wii Most Popular Console in SA! – Mi Digital not so sure

It seems that Core Groups press release has ruffled a few feathers. Waggy from MI-Digital has posted on another gaming forum that while the sales may have been okay for a launch quarter, the Wii still has a very long way to go before it overtakes the 360.

The Wii is close to overtaking the PS3, but still has a way to go to overtake the Xbox 360 which launched in 2006 and has more than double the installed base.

I have been in contact with SterKinekor and am now having a chat with GFK about these statements and all I can say for now is that not everyone is in agreement about the figures being published by The Core Group.

This could be our very own storm in a tea-cup.

The Core Group are boasting on quarterly sales. You can’t judge a whole on a quarter.

Don’t you just love the sweet science of spin – if the competitions apples are sweeter than yours brag about the size of your banana (pun intended)

Core were talking about quarterly sales not LTD sales. MI are spinning which makes me wonder if the figures were true. Plus they shot themselves in the foot with that statement because if the Xbox 360 LTD is double the Wii LTD then the Wii has sold almost half as many consoles, in five months, that the Xbox 360 has sold in nearly a 1.5 years. Unfortunately we don’t have a third party sales tracker like NPD so we’ll never know what the true numbers are.

We do actually have a third party sales tracking company called GFK, however the data is still sensitive and confidential so getting it is harder than one may expect

Right, NOW MI-Digital stands up for the Xbox360. If they had jumped on the ‘please get us Live’ wagon we might have gotten Live, and in turn they would have probably sold more consoles.
So who-ever is responsible, Microsoft, or MI-0Digital, or both, PLEAAASSSEE get us Live SA.
