WildStar gets 10 days Open Beta

Wildstar characters

Open Beta seems like the modern equivalent of a demo. The game isn’t really finished yet, but it’s close enough, and you can get a sense if it’s for you. WildStar is giving you that opportunity for ten days.

First of all, here is the Open Beta launch trailer for the game:

I got some quality time with the game while it was still in closed Beta, and I definitely enjoyed myself. However, due to the subscription nature of this MMO, I’d strongly recommend that anyone who is even vaguely interested in the game goes and gives the Open Beta a try. The Beta version I played was already quite polished and well done – presumably it will be even closer to the final release version now. It should give an accurate sense of what the game will be like, and help you decide if it’s worth the investment.

Want to give the Beta a whirl? The sign up is pretty quick and painless – just head on over here and press the big green button. Remember, it’s only available for PC right now, and there has been minimal mention of expanding to other platforms. So, if you’re looking to play an MMO on console, Mac or Linux, you’ll have to look elsewhere.

What makes you choose an MMO? It seems to be an exploding market at the moment – every day someone else announces that they’re making one. What would make you choose WildStar over TESO or FFXIV, or WoW for that matter?

I’ve made my decision Wildstar it is for me over the others. Loved WoW back in the day and this is as WoW 2.0 as things get.

Tried it in CB a while back but had major lag/delay issues on it with my 3G vs WoW which is easily playable on it. Meh

Uhmmm, Closed beta was on American servers, even with ADSL you will be getting lag spikes. Even people IN the USA had issues due to server load… I have been playing since start CB, lag went down last 2 beta weekends. With Open Beta on EU servers I am getting 190 – 220ms, SAME AS WOW. so would suggest some research before shooting down a game:)

I wasn’t shooting it down I was making an observation. I did also do a lot of research on the game and it looked good. Just the CB I played put me off because of the lag and the game having much more interactive combat. I did forget it was on the US servers actually tho so thanks, will check it out again since I am over WoW atm.

I made the mistake of pre-ordering WOD, I haven’t gotten bored with Wildstar at all, love every moment. They could make the attack box things look better or more interactive. The blue or red box filling up makes it look like you are playing the tutorial to something. Checking at work now on Cell C with HSDPA 7.2Mb/s down and 3Mb/s up, I am getting 254 MS to Wildstar. So give it a go during Open beta, hope you stay:)

Personally I can’t stand the art style of the characters, just looks so… childish.

Which is weird as most JRPG stuff is pretty adult looking in nature…

Exactly. And like 1000 years ago that was pretty good going.

16.4 total. You were right. I think I might have switched the data sizes with ESO or WoW.
