Will The International give a $6 million prize?

2 min read

Dota 2 is serious business. Last year’s The International 3 gave out record money, not just for Dota but also for eSports. This year, thanks to the Compendium, that prize amount has already been surpassed.

Last year’s Compendium astounded everyone – the goals, rewards and prize pool far exceeded expectations. This year, the Compendium was launched over the weekend, and has already surpassed last year’s, currently making the prize pool just over 3.5 million greenback dollars. Every time someone guys a Compendium, that adds $2.50 to the prize – that’s a lot of Compendiums sold! So what do you get for buying?

This year, you can actually level up your Compendium:

Every 100 points will level up your Compendium. You’ll receive extra immortal treasures, obtain new custom in-game effects, get bonus Loading Screens and increase your Battle Point Booster percentage as you progress.

[…]Once your Compendium reaches Level 4, the International Courier will be yours: Kunkka’s faithful Lieutenant Squawkins, a parrot unique in all the lands of Dota. Continue to develop your Compendium and you’ll unlock alternate styles for Lieutenant Squawkins at Level 24 and Level 41. The alternate styles will be available at a later date.

[…]This year’s Compendium has several new objectives you can work toward to earn points. Take the 10 Hero Challenge, and try to win a game with each of ten randomly assigned heroes.

Offer up your unwanted items for exchange with the Offering of the Aegis. Every week your offering will be collected and Compendium Points and items will be left in its place.

Explore the new fantasy format. Each Compendium owner will be granted a ticket to compete in Dota Fantasy Season 1, starting May 19. Look for more details soon.

The Compendium costs $10 and gives you access and rewards throughout the International. Last year, players earned all kinds of cool things just from watching their favorite players face off. It’s an awesome way to make spectators feel like they’re part of the tournament, even if they can’t attend in person. It’s rewarding, exciting, and really, who doesn’t want to create a fantasy Dota team and see how they fare? The stretch goals include all sorts of cool rewards, and extend to the $6 million mark. Will we see a prize pool of $6 million this year?

Considering we’re already more than halfway there, we actually just might.

I already bought mine and I can’t wait for TI4!

The fact that Valve makes the game 100% free to play with all the heroes available is amazing!

They deserve every cent! VOLVO <3

I honestly don’t think I have stopped playing it for more than a week in the last 8 years or so… This includes DOTA1 of course.

Awesome game! You do need an awesome group along with it to be honest.

100% agreed about it being the best MOBA. I have tried all of them extensively, but every single time I went back to DOTA. I even left HON to go back to DOTA1 xD

lol! I have probably bought 8 keys? maybe, but I stay away from them. That is a dark hole where money goes to die! I do buy tourny tickets and compendium type stuff. Also bought the Free To Play bundle to support the movie etc.

I have easily spent over R1000 in DOTA2 and they deserve every cent!

No don’t get me wrong, I feel exactly the same as you 🙂

I just find it funny that myself and loads of my friends thought buying items was the silliest waste of money ever. PAY MONEY FOR DIGITAL STUFF!?!?! I slowly started buying keys, and stuff off the market and when its on sale. “I’m supporting Valve,” I told myself over and over again. I’m pretty sure I’m the same as you, well over R1k. Hell, its been so worth it though. I’ve got over 3000 hours invested in that game and I love it more and more each time.

HUGS FOR ALL THE DOTA PEOPLE! <3

I reckon by the end of TI4, we’ll have hit 8mil.
if they make better stretch goals for after 6mil.
the sales of those optional compendium points will outweigh the price of compendiums very quickly.

ive seen a few level 63 compendium owners, that means theyv dropped 30$ on points, and ive seen atleast one level 24 in every game ive played
