Halloween or Hallowe’en (a contraction of All Hallows’ Evening), also known as Allhalloween, All Hallows’ Eve, or All Saints’ Eve, is a celebration observed in a number of countries on 31 October, the eve of the Western Christian feast of All Hallows’ Day. It begins the three-day observance of Allhallowtide, the time in the liturgical year dedicated to remembering the dead, including saints (hallows), martyrs, and all the faithful departed.

Halloween activities include trick-or-treating (or the related guising), attending Halloween costume parties, decorating, carving pumpkins into jack-o’-lanterns, lighting bonfires, apple bobbing and divination games, playing pranks, visiting haunted attractions, telling scary stories and watching horror films. In many parts of the world, the Christian religious observances of All Hallows’ Eve, including attending church services and lighting candles on the graves of the dead, remain popular, although elsewhere it is a more commercial and secular celebration.

Commercial celebration you say, Wikipedia? You’re goddam right! Valve are definitely going to commemorate the spookiest day of the year, and they’re going to do so by throwing a special Steam Sale. You know what’s the best part? You’re all invited to take part in the Halloween festivities!

We don’t even have to wait for Monday the 31st to kick off the celebration. Valve are going ahead and starting the party a little early – just in time for the weekend as a matter of fact.

Oh what’s that, you don’t have any money to really take advantage of the spooky sale? Worry not, because our good friends over at Evopoints have come out and given us two R500 Steam vouchers to give away. In order to stand the chance to win one, all you need to do is dress up, snap a photo of yourself doing a handstand during the full moon, and, bah who am I kidding? All you need to do to enter is fill in this form:

Error: Contact form not found.

Remember if you win, sharing is caring! I have a Steam wishlist full of games I’d love to get my hands on. This isn’t Christmas I know, but a spooky gift appearing in my inbox would most definitely not go unnoticed! We’ll be giving away the codes on Monday afternoon. You’re allowed one entry per wholly unique email address. Good Luck!

Once again, mega thanks to Evopoints for giving us the prizes. They’re the best place to get your digital vouchers for Steam, XBox Live, PSN, iTunes and much, much more.

Been looking for something freeeeaaaaky to play on Halloween. By tradition my mate and I try to find a scary ass game to play on Halloween, after a few drinks and coughs. I was looking at FNAF but it seems a bit shallow. Anyone got any recommendations?

The Forest is atmospheric and tense. Audio design is on point. Frequent updates too, despite the “early access” moniker. It’s an under appreciated gem in my books.

It is. Considering where they come from and still calling it an Alpha state game despite looking and playing the way it does, says a lot.

I’d just like to point out that the origins of Halloween are Celtic. Not Christian. The observation of saints and stuff is a practice taken on by some Christians that I do not agree with.

    That is all.

Lol I chopped that paragraph from my excerpt 😛 I wanted to speed on to the last line which goes on about commercial celebration:

“It is widely believed that many Halloween traditions originated from Celtic harvest festivals which may have pagan roots, particularly the Gaelic festival Samhain, and that this festival was Christianized as Halloween. Some academics, however, support the view that Halloween began independently as a solely Christian holiday.”

It actually has, just look at America which is the most Christian 1st world country around and also the largest Halloween supporter.

The local christians who find halloween evil are unique snowflakes who need to be protected.. from kids in costumes and pumpkins.

70.6% (46.5% of that being active) of the American population identified themselves as Christians, so that’s 224 million people… Italy might have a higher percentage (88% but only a 3rd are actually active) but then again they only have 60 million people.

          • Archdruid Kromas

            October 28, 2016 at 09:26

Semantics Aside Italy is called the Capitol of Christianity. (Well Rome is). But I do get what you are saying. Still think it is wrong though.

          • Gavin Mannion

            October 28, 2016 at 09:31

            but.. facts aren’t semantics?

Got the team to help me here :)..
US has 32.8% active Christians (70.6% claim to be, 46.5% are)
Italy has 29.4% active Christians (88% claim to be, 33% are)

Then work on the numbers and FAR FAR more Christians are in America rather than Italy in percentage and numbers both.

Same as England is the home of football but it doesn’t mean they have the most football fans… I think Brazil does.. but would need to check,

Also many many many of the Christian branches no longer look to Rome for their moral lead…

          • Archdruid Kromas

            October 28, 2016 at 09:41

My definition of Most “Christian Country” is following the beliefs and culture of said religion. Unless blatant racism and daily killing sprees are “the Christian way” then I stand by Italy.

Then again as devout non-Christian I don’t actually care that much either way.

I will just admit defeat and move on. 😛

          • Gavin Mannion

            October 28, 2016 at 09:59

lol you give up as you bring logic to the argument… If it makes you feel better Italians are stereotypical racist as well

          • Archdruid Kromas

            October 28, 2016 at 10:03

True but they don’t kill Cops wearing “Black lives matter” shirts days after finding out it was not a white cop who shot a black man but rather a black cop who shot a black man. I mean Italy is fairly chill when it comes to news worthy events. America however is like South Africa news stories will never run out.

Also I give up cause I have no idea why I even started the argument.
