The recent news of price increases has gotten a lot of the local community in a bit of a stir and with it, brought about a lot of comments from our readers about moving back to PC gaming.
So today I read an article stating that Windows 7 is set to be the real next generation gaming platform, so I thought I would take a look and see if it is in fact a decent option for those who do not want to fork out the necessary cash for console gaming.
As soon as I read the title, I already felt like I had hit a snag. Didn’t they say the same thing about Windows Vista?
Throughout the article there is basically a lot of talk about who is doing what to make this and that amazing. Promises, promises.
What about all of the people who bought into the whole Vista idea, the ones who were told that Live on Vista was going to change PC gaming and make everything a lot better. Where are they now? It’s not only about the technical aspects of the operating system and whatever they are promising that Direct X eleventy-trillion can offer, the real question is whether or not it’s actually going to work out at the end of the day.
Steam has done a fantastic job as far as hardcore online gaming goes, it has a lot of the features seen on PSN and Xbox Live and runs completely free. It shows that there is still a huge bass of PC users out there that want nothing more than to play some games on their PC.
Will WIndows 7 bring about some sort of change that even makes a few of us think of going back over exclusively? I wouldn’t hold my breath but in the event that Microsoft does actually learn from it’s mistakes and creates something worthwhile, it may be worth a look, so keep your eyes peeled if your are seriously considering going over.
When it comes to my own personal preference, I can never see myself going back over to PC gaming. Installations, drive space, hardware requirements, downloading patches, fiddling with settings to get a decent framerate… It really doesn’t sound appealing to anyone who has gotten used to popping in a disc and then flopping backwards onto the couch.
Something significant will need to happen to really make me consider it. The ability to run Crysis and GTA IV on a Pentium 1 would be a great start.

I played the Tomb Raider: Underworld demo on Vista and I was truly amazed about how far the PC has come 😯
And I played the demo on a Pentium D 1.8hgz with only 1gig RAM and a medium range ATI3650 graphics card with all the graphic settings and resolutions on high but with no anti-aliasing 😎

My main problem with PC gaming is the cost of hardware. If you want a decent enough GFX to play the new games they way they’re meant to be played, you’re going to fork out more than the amount for a 360, and that’s JUST the GFX card. not even taking into account you’re core 2 processor, hdd, RAM, MB, case and all the rest. Its just too expensive.
Also, more and more games are console exclusive, or at least for the first couple of months, because piracy on the PC costs the companies too much. PC gamers are only screwing themselves by pirating games.

Windows 7 is supposed to be the fix/improved version of Vista. What we have to remember is that when XP was launched it was as buggy and unstable as Vista, it just needs some time to be functional.
This new Windows can be considered as a patch, fixing most of the problems. It’s not like we’ll have a choice anyways :), wait and see

you also miss out on a ton of games that goes to the pc cutting edge gaming.
by the both micro soft and sony are slowly sinking just like almust every other console in history. The only console to make was nintendo and they had a game crash.
