Late last week The Witcher 3 finally delivered on a promise it had been holding out on with the modding community. MODkit was finally let loose in the wild, letting you pimp out Geralt with some custom threads or alter the appearance of your trusty steed altogether. MODkit finally allowed those savvy enough to learn its systems to alter the appearance of the game – but that’s where the support is sadly stopping.
The Witcher 2 featured a different set of modding tools entirely, with the famous REDkit allowing modders to easy create quests and content in a truly robust system. MODkit isn’t only more difficult to grasp, but it doesn’t allow for this at all. REDkit was initially promised to the modding community a long time ago, but it seems releasing it isn’t part of CD Projekt RED’s plans anymore.
@MeerMusik This is the mod support for the Wild Hunt. At this moment we are not planning to release anything else.

That’s just a little disappointing, especially to the scores of modders itching to get the same amount of control over one of this year’s best games in the same way they did its predecessor. MODkit isn’t terrible, but it’s nowhere near as powerful as the REDkit in terms of meaningful content add-ons – relegating your abilities to just editing character and gear appearances and little else.
Perhaps CD Projekt Red will revisit this at a later time, but for now it’s not one of their priorities. Don’t hold your breath.

I’m all for modding, but in some games it just makes a lot more sense than others. Witcher 3 is not one of those games imo.

I think that CD Projekt Red released some of their own DLC that was either a) new missions or b) alternative skins for Yen/Triss etc shows that there is a lot of space for modding in The Witcher 3. But it’d be poor business to give the community those tools and then try to sell them DLC that potentially includes those things in the future.
But I’d still buy the DLC either way.. only because they deserve it. 😛

With RedKit you can create content, have your own adventures, missions, ect.
CDPR is not done creating content for The Witcher 3. They still creating content to sell through two expansion packs.
They can’t give content creation tools out in case the fan made content is better than what they have planned for the content they creating for the expansion packs.
So I’m sure when they are done creating content and finished with the witcher 3, next year some time, then they will release the REDKIT.
For now Modkit to change the horse’s hair purple.

Shame, the people who bought a game that gave them hundreds of hours are going to cry because they can’t mod it…

Game gave me 15 odd hours before I got bored. Way too grindy for my liking.

Grindy? I didn’t think that. The game is literally a loot fest and all you have to do for awesome gear is.. play? 😛
If you’re too lazy to pick up crafting materials you can still just buy them etc. Lol.

Was not the gathering that I can live with. It was more the go there kill that type thing that bored me to death. WoW pretty much killed it for me.

It’s a great game with a great story, an amazing atmosphere and awesome gameplay. When they said that they were gonna give mod support for the game, I was expecting a lot more than just a texture editor. I gotta say, I really disappointed with this, but that’s just it. Just because we’re disappointed doesn’t give us the right give them too much crap about it. As Keira Metz has said: Any port in a storm
