Work Avoidance Wednesday: Building Rush

Ah, Wednesday, that day when even more so than other days people don’t want to work. We are hear to help with our glorious Work Avoidance Wednesday, this time brought to you by an addictively weird form of city planning.

Building Rush is all about building a new town and earning money. Players build plants to produce and sell the building materials necessary, sending trucks to each of the different building sites in order to make money and develop the town. Sounds easy enough, especially considering that you can earn medals and achievements to get extra cash for upgrades. It’s a simple game, but don’t underestimate how addictive it is, especially with that chilled out music.

Building Rush 1

However, this game is unusually difficult for games of its type. You will probably need to replay levels to improve your results, grabbing more upgrade points and further increasing your chances of success. I kept running out of time as the world’s slowest trucks seemed to take forever to deliver the goods. Drive, dammit, drive!

Building Rush 3

Levels ramp up the difficulty, of course, and I’d highly recommend starting each level with multiple trucks. The more trucks the more money, long term. The same goes for building an extra factory later on in the game.

Building Rush 2

How far can you get in the game? Do you have any excellent advice to share so that we don’t all engage in a mass truck shooting rampage? Do you try to build a site completely before moving on to the next, or spread your load all over town?

At least Trains are a valid option in cape town. from what i understand Joburg has the Gautrain or 3 hours of traffic that you need to pay to be stuck in…. 😛

Went to Loftus via Gautrain and then the bus. It’s a very nice alternative even if a bit expensive, too bad you can’t take it back home after partying.

Is not too bad, to be honest. Can travel to centre of Joburg in under an hour, if I leave Pretoria at 08:00. Most days, the big trouble is no longer the main highway, but when you enter Joburg itself.

I’m lucky, Living and working in the Northern Suburbs, takes me 10 minutes to get to work… Of course Paying more rent than many would consider reasonable…. but hey, anything to avoid too much traffic.

Cape Town is not cheap, almost anywhere. Brothers in law live there and they always complain. Am shocked to see what they get for what they pay AND how far out of the city centre they live

I think growth and demand is driven by people not working in the city center. Big secondary CBD popped up in the Northern suburbs and also viable option if you work in the Tech centers around Stellenbosch or on the Atlantic Seaboard.

Also typically newer houses and bigger plots than the older parts of Cape Town. Specific to my area, having a view of winelands, no direct traffic near the house, cleaner air and very low crime levels compared to the rest of Cape Town is a big bonus.

Rent of small/entry level places is ridiculous high though.

Agreed. But I’m in C’mont and pay R4500 for a 2 bedroom place, don’t want to move as won’t find that price again?

            September 17, 2014 at 12:48

Damn, that’s a great price for a place in C’mont.

Hold on to it for dear life!

Traffic going N1 North? Really? I never have problems…

Although Century City itself sucks. It’s like those islands themselves create black holes that feed off traffic.

The single entrance from the N1 and whole M5 interchange design can only be attributed to a bunch of city planners being high on meth and creating midget porn instead of doing their jobs.

Yeah I feel for you. bought my house 3 km from the office. I only cross one major street.

Best decision I ever made. I remember the grind to get to work all too well, arriving at work at 07:00 or before, because if you leave your house at 07:00, you get to work after 08:00, but leave at 06:30 and it takes around 20 minutes. Not if I can help it.

Massive salary and I may change. And I mean massive.

Lol, thanks but that is really not my preferred type of reading…I prefer long space sci-fi novels, the type that makes you realize you were born in the wrong solar system in the wrong age.

I’m not sure what you mean by that exactly but Dawnbringer is a Korean space sci-fi novel that I consider one of the best novels I’ve read in the last 3 years regardless of genre.
I recommend at least reading the first chapter.
