Work Avoidance Wednesday: Final Fantasy VII (NES)

FF7

How are we meant to work today? We’ve just had a nice long weekend, and the last two days have been filled with far too much E3 goodness. No, screw productivity I say! Let’s carry this no-work momentum through to the weekend. Close that spreadsheet, and delete that email draft… it’s time for some Work Avoidance Wednesday!

Final Fantasy VII is getting a full-blown remake, something I am stupidly excited about. I’m not alone either – bazillions of people around the world are also looking forward to exploring Gaia and stopping Sephiroth once more with Cloud and company in a brand new game.

I know some of you have never even played the title though, and I took it upon myself to give you a taste of what you can expect. Realistically, I would never be able to find the original game in a browser-playable form. However, I have found the next best thing… kinda.

FF7 SUCH SOLDIER WOW

Say hello to the NES remake of Final Fantasy VII. It looks and plays exactly like the very first Final Fantasy title released back in 1987, except everything plays out exactly like that of VII which was released 10 years later.

The game kicks off with Cloud stepping off a train and beating up some guards. He ventures forth into a facility with AVALANCHE, a resistance group looking to destroy it. Why? It’s a Mako Reactor, and it’s sucking the life force straight out of the planet.

lolol

You may be thinking that Cloud is a noble chap, joining Barret (the  resistance leader) and the others for the greater good. Wrong! He’s there for the money… at first. As the story progresses, well, let’s just say it’s a long one at that and I would never be able to explain it all here.

Boss

I doubt this NES remake entails the ENTIRE game – that would be pure madness. If it somehow did, you’d never be able to finish it anytime soon. Regardless, I hope this provides enough distraction to get you through the day. I myself got to the first boss – the giant mech scorpion – before I had to get back to work. If you’re a fan, enjoy. If you’re a newcomer, be excited for the Final Fantasy VII remake… it’s going to be spectacular!
