Work Avoidance Wednesday: Hook

I’m a sucker for a good puzzle game. They aren’t easy to make; difficulty needs to ramp up but not too quickly, and it needs to feel challenging but fair. Plus, good music to keep you in the vibe while you’re playing also helps. Hook has all of this, and I will admit to being hooked on it.

Hook 1

In essence, you click the circle to reel in the hook. It’s a very straight forward premise, but obviously becomes more difficult as the game progresses. With the addition of hooks, moving platforms and other tricks and traps, the game becomes increasingly difficult.

Hook 2

I like the chilled music, and the puzzling is quick and fun, with just the right amount of increasing difficulty. I know the game looks incredibly simple, and I think that feeds into my enjoyment. It doesn’t need splashy visuals or amazing animations – it’s just a clean and slick puzzler that will entertain you during your break from work.

Hook 3

I just wish the game were longer. There isn’t a level counter, but however many levels there are feels like too few. Hook ends just as you finally feel like you’re into it and loving it. Once it has you hooked, it’s over. But that’s okay, because it’s still fun while it lasts.

Spiff. Looks pretty cool. Just wish I didn’t have everyone else’s work to do today.

I don’t see how 15 minutes can be seen as work avoidance…
