We’re well into the second half of the year, and I know that brings with it an amplification in workload, regardless of industry. Are your Christmas decorations up yet? Have those reports been filed before the company closes for the festive season? Of course not! That’s months away, which means you likely have some free time now which needs filling. You can spare a few minutes, can’t you? Good… welcome to today’s Work Avoidance Wednesday!
Today’s title is something I spent far too many bronze pieces on when I was young lad with nothing better to do (except beg my parents for more 50c coins). Bust-a-Move is the name I knew it by, but its original name is Puzzle Bobble. It’s a game that took those cute little er… dinosaur/dragon characters from Bubble Bobble, and put them in a brand new puzzle game.
I’d be surprised to find people who missed out on this game. If you somehow did, let me explain quick. The premise is simple enough: the screen is filled with an assortment of coloured bubbles, enemies if you will, and it’s your job to go about clearing them out. This is achieved by shooting bubbles to match up three or more of the same colour, which will pop them all.
It’s easy enough, at least until extra coloured bubbles are thrown into the mix. Oh, and not to mention that after every few moves, the top of the level pushes down, bringing the bubble enemies closer to your cute duo. Think of it as Tetris in reverse, except it is possible to finish the level by clearing everything.
Beyond the single player campaign, there’s a versus mode. If you have no friends and are alone, worry not, you can play against the AI. Otherwise, grab a buddy from the somewhere in the office, and unleash havoc on them. Popping bubbles on your screen will fill theirs with a little more. It’s fun, fast paced, and extremely addictive.
And there you have it – a game that should keep you (and even some co-workers) busy for at least a little while. If you’d like to play Puzzle Bobble, you can do so by clicking right here.
Did you play this game in your childhood? Like I said, I’d be surprised to find somebody who didn’t. It was a beautiful time sink at just about every arcade I visited all those years ago!
