World of Warcraft going free to MMO virgins

40 year old virgin

Are you pure and untouched, never having shouted “For the Horde”? Well, World of Warcraft wants you to see what all the fuss is about, even though most of its more established players have already stopped playing.

Normally, World of Warcraft is free for players up until a specific level cap, but now it is just wide open. New players can create their characters and run around doing epic questing for the low low price of absolutely nothing until 26 September. Now that’s a price that people can get behind, after downloading the many gigs of data it will require.

I can’t help but see this as a sign that Blizzard knows World of Warcraft is on its way out. They’ve been hemorrhaging players for a long time now and I doubt that the new expansion will bring too many players back for long. Their only real hope is for players who never experienced the joy of the game to try it out and get addicted – with so much content available for new players, there really are plenty of hours to lose in the game.

With so many other MMOs on the market, I wonder for how much longer WoW will be relevant. It’s still the most popular MMORPG, but other games like WildStar might start edging them out of the top spot soon. However, no one can compare with the dedication players have to the game. Just check out this ridiculous cosplay wedding – I don’t see other games getting this kind of love anytime soon:

Anyone who needs an extra income, I can highly recommend this gig….. I worked it for 3 months and it helped me when I was between jobs……. I’ve earned $3000 in 10 days… Now I have a new job so I am not doing it anymore but I can say it’s a great source of extra monthly income. You can check it out here>http://www.moneygoogle/2014/8/11……,,,..

FF 14 was my first…It was pretty gentle and sweet and knew just how to ease me into things. There were times I couldn’t stop ‘logging in’ to its server. Think I will remain faithful to FF14

I wish I could, but those S&M, skin tight, wet suit wearing, smelly Vanu bastards with their wussy pew pew rifles are on my doorstep again. For the Republic!

Seriously though, fetch quests vs. FPS MMO carnage. I know which one I’d pick every time (ping willing)

This right here alone shows that the information is no where near current. Wildstar crashed and burned faster than ToR. They didn’t stop monthly updates and instituting megaservers because they are doing well.

Honestly I have to say despite the fact I only got back into WoW a month ago and just finishing off the 1 – 60 grind I am getting pretty sick of people saying “ermegerd WoW is dieing!” when it’s it’s 10million+ strong in both EU and US. The US is 15million+

So they have lost 3million odd subscribers. Yes it’s a lot and yes it’s hurt Blizzard that is a huge chunk of revenue. However since I have started playing especially since Dreanor release trailer there are a hell of people in the starting area.

I think the only other MMO that has succeeded in being that popular for over 10 years is EVE. GuildWars 2 is already fading out, ToR crashed and burned bad, Elder Scrolls online also is nowhere near as popular as people planned.

WildStar started off well but is already experiencing player loss. FFXIV is also having free login campaigns if people haven’t noticed and was only successful after they had to entirely destroy the game world once.

The point I am making is WoW has been around for 10 years, still has the larger player base than many of the top MMO’s combined and is from a very old and well established company, they were established in 1991 I was 4 for gods sake they have been around 23 years!

WoW is not suddenly just going die and fizzle out in obscurity any time soon like people constantly seem to be singing.

    —————

Also from personal experience from the guild I am in the bulk of the people have been playing since Vanilla with 10 odd alt characters each and they still put more time into that game than most of new players. The love for it is still very strong amongst a lot of the long time plaers.

you’re numbers are off there, buddy… at the End of Q2 2014, the TOTAL subscribers was sitting at 6.8 Mil…. That’s way off from you’re mythical 10-15 mil…

Give WOW a try, why not?

On the state of your Internet. Check out below to see if your area even supports a full 10Mb:
            http://www.telkom.co.za/checkadsl/#.VAgH5PmSzkQ t

What is your signal to noise ratio and attenuation? You will need to log into your router and find the DSL statistics. Below is a great article which you can measure against:
            http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/186156-Understanding-SNR-and-Attenuation-Rates

Also see if your router shows you your max attainable rate.

Lastly do you know how far you are away from the exchange? 4km or more and you are going to struggle for higher that 4Mb.

If all signs are there that you can get more that 4Mb then contact the company your line is with and ask them to remove the limit on your line.

May be an obvious question but I need to ask, who is your ISP and what account do you have? You could be using an uncapped 4Mb ISP account it will limit you even if your line is 10Mb. I suggest going for a 120GB to 200GB capped account so you get max speed all the time. Since I changed from uncapped/shaped to capped/unshaped I have never looked back.

I have a capped line with Afrihost. It seems the Line is not moved to 10mbs on Telkom side, still at 4mbs

Moved from uncapped elsewhere. THey shaped me BUT claimed they did not.

Rofl I can admit when I am wrong, and clearly was.

Honestly I say give it a shot, it’s not that hectic to learn I picked up on playing Elemental Shaman quicker than I do on playing Marauder and Warrior in FFXIV.

There is a shit ton of grinding fair enough, but for the most part it’s well laid out and the progression is quick. Like I have literally been playing a month maybe 2 – 3 hours a day averaged out (some days I dont play and one sunday I played 14 hours straight), and yeah I am at LV58 now with out any stupid amounts of needlessly traveling.

I’ve played WOW for many years stopped now since I got my PS4 but I completly agree with you WOW is nowhere near dying but none of these people actually play the game or have played it to know that.

It is by far the biggest and best MMO out there I would say it is one of the best games out there if you have time to play a LOT, since Heroic raids are where the game starts for me and for that you need to invest time in which I don’t have anymore.

So is WOW on the way out as the article says no freaking way i am with u on that.

Bah.. People Seem to Focus on WoW loosing Subs.. Wanna know something.. WoW has lost my Subs about 9 times since I started playing When Burning Crusade was Released. Guess what I’m back playing it again. The WoW Sub hemorrhaging as its so called never gets mentioned of how many Players take a break and return to WoW. sure some ppl dont return.. but im sure many do, especially when new Xpacks are released. World of Warcraft is like a crack addictions.. You might be sober for 6months at a time but u always long for that fix..

Not exactly correct. They take an active yearly sub average. That has dropped by almost half. WoW is loosing subs that never come back except maybe for a month or two with each expansion. I personally think making content too easy is their downfall but that is just me and my CE of WoD will arrive same as every other addicts. 😛

25Gb Download just for the starting game and I think one expansion. Not worth it for the endless boring grinding to get levels, as well as the cartoonish characters and environments, never personally been a fan played the intro 30 days and that was enough.
