Xbox 360 + 15 games or a PS3?

Honestly I think this article is skewed completely to the Xbox side but it does show a very valid point.

After the recent price cuts Videogamer.com went out and decided to see exactly what you could get for the price of a 40Gb PS3 (in the UK)

Lets clear up a few things first, they are using the Xbox 360 Arcade in this comparison which means it only really applies to someone who wants to play games offline and isn’t interested in HD movies.

So for the price of 1 PS3 you can get

1 x Xbox 360 Arcade
2 x Wireless Controllers
1 x 256 Memory card (for your saved games)
1 x HDMI Cable
1 x PGR 4 – Great racing game
1 X Splinter Cell: Double Agent
1 X Dead Rising – who doesn’t like killing zombies?
1 X Stuntman Ignition – you could trade it  🙂
1 X Oblivion
1 X Prey
1 X Table Tennis – a 360 staple
1 X Viva Pinata – This game is really really good. If you haven’t played it you should
1 X Forza 2 – a really good racing simulator
1 X Halo 3
1 X Uno
1 X Pacman
1 X Boom Boom Rocket – I enjoy this
1 X Feeding Frenzy
1 X Luxor 2

After all of that you are still going to have £2.10 for a celebratory beer on the way home

I would personally suggest putting your change towards getting two plug and play charge kits as well and you will be ready to go.

So if you had the choice what would you do?

I think its great either way, now if the 360 starts overtaking the PS3 in monthly sales then Sony drops their price again…

    Consumer wins.

OK they went all out to get as many games as possible… Couple of games could be dropped for Gears but still thats an awesome list.

I still think it’s better to invest on a double set of rechargeable batteries. They last longer.

Lazy, you had a really good site, to bad about the xbox 360 fanboys. I always enjoy flame wars, but the posts and comments regarding PS3 has reached its limits.

It seems you don’t want accurate news but biased news. They cough up many lies… I go there for laughs. They recently had a story about the PS3 version of GTA4 being better that the 360 version. Heck, they even photoshopped together a cover of GTA4 for the PS3 with its own exclusive downloadable content sticker on. People put effort in sites like that so that fanboys like you can enjoy them. So go and have fun there if you don’t like it here any more.

“It is possible to modify a PS3 to run Windows XP and thus run a game which is noted here as an Xbox 360 “Console exclusive”. However, in this regard, the PS3 is no longer a game console but in fact becomes a Windows-based PC. ”

Actually Lazy, PS3Fanboys comment on GTA4 is not without any basis, a comment vaguely along those lines was made by a GTA dev, but PS3f needs to stop using PS fansites as “sources”.

The actual comment was that the colours are a bit “warmer” on the PS3. Unfortunately what he missed was that the framerate and load times on the 360 version are better.

Personally I can crank up my red anytime. Framerate on the other hand . . 😉

N4G.com : GTA IV: PS3 coming out slightly on top in some areas

With Grand Theft Auto IV due out at the end of next month, Take-Two has suggested what developers Rockstar will be doing with all their free time.

According to Gamasutra, executives in a conference call with investors first noted that the studio would be first be working on GTA IV downloadable content – exclusive to the Xbox 360 – available through until 2009. Take-Two also said that both the 360 and PS3 version of the game be visually almost identical, with the PS3 coming out slightly on top in some areas.

Positive news for both consoles 😀

@Lazy: This is a copy and paste article, have you checked these games with SA prices?

Actual source, seems to have been taken down, here;s the content verbatim:

“Neil Corbett from Rockstar, Lead QA on Grand Theft Auto IV, posted on the english forum rllmukforum.com discussing the differences between the two versions of the game and the Xbox 360 exclusive contents. This is what he had to say:

“Hello, as it stands the Xbox 360 version has the smoother framerate & far faster loading times (without any installing) but the PS3 version does have that warm feeling with bleached out sunsets & the like. The extra content of the 360 version is significant but nothing like an ‘extra Island’ at all- as the lead platform it is currently the superior version however. Just you wait until your first windscreen-flying experience.”

So it seems he considers the 360 version having an edge over the PS3 one, even if he subsequently adds: “Suffice to say that both versions are stunning.”

@PS3F, I remember them saying that Burnout and DMC were going to be way better on the PS3 and those stores got airtime. However they never delivered so I stopped posting about them

I only have six games for my 360. And I don’t play online, so I would imagine the arcade would appeal to someone like myself.
I also have six games for my PS3, as well as 27 PS2 games.
If I was strapped for cash I would definitely go for the inferior option of the arcade over a PS3. 😉

And because of where the PS3, what it is offering, and the lies that Sony keep pouring out, they often have to make up news about the PS3 as there just isn’t any good news out there for the console.

I really dont think apples are being compared with apples here. If it was the Elite then a totally different story as elite is the closest machine you get to a ps3.

@Chase, I have to disagree with you there.

If you are not interested in online gaming (which a lot of people aren’t) and you are either not a movie fan or would prefer to have a stand alone HD player (like me) then the Arcade is a perfect gaming console.

I just dont think the Arcade model can even be remotely compared to the PS3.

A ELite is now R3995 and PS3 is now R4495. So you could have a xbox arcade + 15 games or elite and 1 game or ps3 and no games? A elite is only R500 cheaper and im basing a game on that R500. I think the comparison carries alot less weight when u compare it to elite plus 1 game?

@Chase, COD4 single player is just as good on the Arcade as the PS3, the same can be said for Burnout, FIFA, DMC4 etc…

If you are looking for a gaming machine only then it is a good option.

Also worth nothing is that the price of the PS3 is going up to around R5400 at the end of the month and games are going up to about R650….. So we are back to R6000 to buy a PS3 and 1 game compared to R1999 for the arcade and how many games?

Ye fair enough Lazy dont get me wrong 2k for a console and 15 games is an awesome deal i just dont think its fair bracketing the arcade against the ps3 because of the so many different features the ps3 offers. Yes the consumer you talking about does not want/need those features so then its a great deal.

Also worth noting because Blu ray won the format war is its gonna be cheaper to buy ps3 than xbox and standalone blu ray player.
