Xbox 360 60GB nearly confirmed

So that 60GB 360 model that I called BS on earlier seems to be true.

Well that is if a leaked memo from the retailers is to be believed, which they normally are.

Apparently the new drive is going to also be released in a bundle along with 3 months Live membership, a headset and a network cable for $99.99

R750 for a 60GB hard drive… the mind boggles.

I still don’t see the reason for doing this and am now worried about those idiotic installs making their way over to the 360.

I don’t think they can do installs because of the arcade xbox…

however, i think M$ is getting ready for the whole Download thingy and will (not now, but later on) take over physical media. you will most likely find that they gonna start putting new games up on XBOX live and sell them that way, where you pay less,(pfft, I’d like to see anyone happily dl games in SA)

    “with 3 months Live membership”

So much for the rumored E3 announcement of Free Live.

I think MS is hanging on to the 360 hardware too tightly. The PS3 is by no means suffering from allowing users to install their own hard drives.

I will take a really wild guess and say that this 60gig hard drive is going to be linked to that major MS announcement at E3.

I have to agree with you here. The prices of the 360 accessories is bordering on insane..

Why can’t I just plug a simple WiFi USB dongle into it instead of buying a R1000 Wifi adapter 🙁

i’m still baffled on this whole 60GB thing. I thought HDD manufacturers wanted to stop making them in favour of the 80GB. I guess if MS asks, you do.

So basically it’s a Live upgrade kit for the Core/Arcade owners. They should have made the subscription voucher 12 months though.

@scotty, i don’t think they’re going to offer full retail games on the 360 via direct download (not this gen anyway). I think it’s in preparation for IPTV. That’s what I think the “big E3 announcement” is going to be.

I would love to make my box Wi-Fi but I agree that the price is insane. All game consoles have built in WiFi even my PSP.

Didn’t they already announce the IPTV stuff last year?

    announced, yes.
    launched, no.

I suspect that sometime this year, countries with the infrastructure (i.e NOT South Africa) will have IPTV.

Either way, this confirms my suspicions that whatever MS are going to announce at E3, it’s not going to impact us. Hell, the big announcement may even be the release of a 60GB model.
If the big announcement is IPTV launching, I’m going to kick something.
