Xbox 360 Getting USB Memory Support In April

Just the other day, we reported that the Xbox 360 will be getting USB memory support, meaning that you will be able to use USB devices on your console in place of memory sticks and hard drives.

Major Nelson has now notified us that the update is coming soon, and will be added to the console on April 6th. While you will be able to use any USB device (apparently external hard drives “may work”) you will only be able to utilise 16GB’s on the device, with a maximum of two devices connected at the same time. Microsoft will be partnering with Sandisk to release their own official branded devices as well.

I am one of those poor suckers that is still sitting with a crummy 20GB hard drive, so the ability to even just download a large demo onto a USB flash drive so that I can try it out is a function that I will be very happy to make use use of.

  1. Quite pathetic actually. Trying now, after all this time, to give us a little bit of convenience. Too little, too late, I’ve moved over to the ONLY next gen console which is the PS3.

Glad you cleared that up at the end there, I thought you were talking about the Wii

*looks over at his old 20gb xbox harddrive and spits*

It’s almost as if the powers that be at Microsoft watched that old video of Kaz Hirai on youtube (ITTT’SSS RIDDGEEE RAACEERRR!!), and decided that mediocre and disappointing announcements are du jour all of a sudden.

Honestly Microsoft, just allow me to use my 1Tb SATA drive already. Please… :getlost:

But will the disk-read speed be fast enough to install games to to get the increased loading time benefit?

So the 360 never supoorted usb flashdisks, i.e like the way the ps3 does when you could just put a movie on the flash plug it in and then watch?

It does but not for system data.
You could watch Vids or listen to music via USB.

But for stuff like saves or demos (XBOX System related Data) you couldn’t

      But now you can.
