Xbox 360 latest update kicks all the COD pirates off Xbox Live

If you were playing your Xbox 360 last night you would have noticed that there was a mandatory update that  you had to install. Microsoft had officially said it was simply to reintroduce the boot to disk option on the dashboard but then why was it so big?

Well it seems at least one of the extra bits included was some code to identify and block pirated copies of Call of Duty Black Ops and MW2 being played on the system.

Strangely they don’t seem to be banning the pirates this time around but I think that’s just a matter of time, so if you have a pirated copy and haven’t put it in yet then I would recommend destroying it and going to buy a retail copy like you should have done in the first place.

Else don’t come crying here when your 360 turns into a doorstop.

This update was very strange. My wife’s console took around 15-20 minutes to update on our 4MB line, but just after that I did the update and it took maybe 2-3 minutes. I think it was more an issue on their side rather than size.

What I failed to mention was on my 384k line the download failed 4 times, and I had to download it off the xbox live web site manually, burn it to cd, and then MANUALLY install it. Fun times.

And Major Nelson was so glib about it on his blog. He just stated what needed to be stated and left it at that. Everybody in the comments section went nuts about it but he did no respond to anyone. LOL

Does the update have any advantages? I haven’t connected to live for probably a month because I am over multiplayer. Single player campaigns are much more interesting.

Now they should have an update to ban hackers from PS3 on COD: black ops and MW2. but that could be difficult since those hackers caused many unknowingly players to jump straight to level 70 without consent, making many of them look like they hacked their way to level 70.

Wow, only took me about 5 min on a 16meg line. I’d suspect the slowest downloads were Microsoft’s fault and not your Internet. I did it early in the day so it never got in the way of the masses updating, methings.

SA bandwidth restraints makes the problem on our side Luna. So people with crappy lines here are bound to have download issues with bigger files.

You guys in the US are very fortunate to have fast reliable internet in every sense of the word.

I didn’t have any problems with the update, it probably took under 20mins to install and update.
