Xbox 360 Price Cut Rumoured – All over the place

So March 14th it is then… apparently. There are rumours flying all over the place now about an expected Xbox 360 price cut.

According to TechRadar this price cut will bring the Xbox 360 in at a cheaper price than the Nintendo Wii.

Currently we are paying R2699 for the Arcade while the Wii is going for R2899…. So who wants to place money on us not actually even getting this price cut locally?

If we do not get this R500 price cut then it will be the second price cut in a row that hasn’t been applied in South Africa which would be a bit annoying.

However it is better than the price increase that the PS3 is about to experience.

    Just a question Gavin?
Is it possible to take legal action or at least report the retailers to MS that do not cut their prices?

No legal action but you could always inform Microsoft who would most probably look down on it.

All the distributors only send out recommended retail pricing and strongly recommend this price. However it is up to the individual retailer.

Freemarket economy. The distributors may sell at any price that suits them.

If retailers refuse to drop the price, you could always lodge a complaint with the competition commision for price fixing.
However I think our retailers never previously received a pricecut for our region.

Ok, is there anyone that actually believes this will impact us at all?

We never get the first price cut because the 360 was sold here at a cheaper price. We were getting about R300 cheaper while the Wii is being sold here at R700 more.

The problem is that the rand is quick and the cost of everything is going UP. So if the pricecut ends up cancelling all those factors, fine by me.

@AveshR, Microsoft has been making a profit per console for quite a while now but I do think you are onto something.

It has been rumoured that Microsoft has now recovered all the useful pieces from the dead Xbox’s and are now adding them to the new ones…

Mainly the little things like Memory and the like but also the CPU’s and GPU’s

The device you’re talking about is codenamed “OPUS” if I’m not mistaken. They’re not old components, but rather new 65nm boards, but design to fit in a Xenon ie pre-HDMI cases. They’re not intended for resale, they’re for refurbishment only.
