Xbox 360 version of 'Madden NFL 08' sticks it to PS3

USAToday has reviewed the latest Madden Iteration and has overwhelmingly backed the 360 version.

PS3 owners, unfortunately, are greeted with a Madden that is sluggish in comparison. Action stutters far too often, particularly on injuries, penalties and turnovers. There’s also a half-second delay between pressing the hike button and receiving the ball in your hands. Even close-ups between play look dull when lined up against the 360’s sleeker cut scenes.

I for one have always enjoyed American Football and would love to have a go at this game, unfortunately I seem to be in the minority in South Africa as this game is harder to find than the Wii at the moment.

There have been a lot of complaints about the PS3 version so far and EA Sports has officially replied to some of it.

While we fully understand your frustration with the limitations the technology has placed against the video frames per second of the game play on the PlayStation 3 game console, it was out intent to put out the best possible with Madden across 10 platforms.

They go on to say that since they have had much more time with the 360 it is easier to develop for but not to worry as they will get the hang of the PS3… But the problem I see is that next year they would still have had more time with the 360 and it will then still be better will it not?

I am sure the people who have forked out virtually double the cost on their console are expecting the games to be better on their console, or at least the same. However so far the PS3 has lost every single head to head. That must hurt.

This isn’t a game I’d buy so I dont care. I’ll get worried if GRAW2, Stranglehold, Assassins Creed etc come out running at 30 fps on the PS3. Til then it just looks as if EA were lazy when doing the port.

papa the problem exists in 2K sports as well. Seriously people are going to have to stop saying the developers are lazy just because the PS3 ports stink. Maybe, just maybe the PS3 is overly complicated to develop for.

ocelot, EA announced it ages ago yes but the game has just been released and reviewed 😉

Madden is a BIG game in the US, how would Sony feel about their 2x priced console not catching up to a less expensive console by 30fps?

I am waiting for this game to arrive as its been pre-ordered ( X360 version of course ) so will get my own opinion on this game first hand. But if this is the sign of things to come from such a BIG company as EA in regards to the PS3 tech then it should worry. What if this affects FIFA08, NBA Live 08 and other countless sports games for the PS3? Would you worry then?

There’s no doubt that it’s difficult to develop software for the PS3 and it takes time to do the necessary optimizations etc. Sony delivered a complicated system. Thats old news.
However, EA were too lazy/unskilled to take the time to optimize their code for the PS3. Other publishers/developers appear to be making the effort to get their software running efficiently on the PS3, as we can tell by the long delays in getting Rainbow 6 and GRAW2 to the PS3 so EA could have done the same. They wouldn’t even have had to delay the XBox360 version.

So you mean people wouldnt mind waiting for over 6 months at times to have their optimized PS3 game? GRAW 2 & R6 are examples which did not really shine IMO. R6 still is inferior to the almost 1 year old X360 version in many ways. Why would people have to wait 6 months for a game while a less expensive platform has them without much of a hiccup?

Its Sony that has to optimize their complicated SDK and not the developers who maybe see themselves limited by the cell hardware.
