Game Room

Remember way back when we heard about the upcoming Xbox Game Room? Well it has finally been confirmed by Microsoft and here are the details.

Over the next 3 years Game Room will grow to include over 1000 retro arcade titles for you to enjoy just the way they were. It’s somewhere your avatars can call Home and you will be able to customise it (at a cost) and truly make it something that shows off your personality.

There are two payments structures. You can either buy the game for between 240-400 points or just pay 40 points for a once off game.

Check out the video after the break of this awesome ground breaking application.

Okay I have to admit I just lied to you, not about the video that’s right above this paragraph but more about it being awesome.

Which idiot is going to knowingly throw 40 points at a game when you can buy the entire thing for maximum 10 times that amount and why on earth would I want to customise my own arcade in some virtual world using real money, if I wanted to blow my money I could just buy avatar pets or beer… tough choice but these are the cards I have been dealt.

PlayStation Home has been trying to do this for ages now and it’s a terrible idea, someone up near the pinnacle of Microsoft needs a slap.

If I didn’t make myself clear I think the idea stinks but if you really want to give it a try and don’t have a Xbox 360 then don’t panic as it will be available on PC as well… which may make days at the office easier to handle.

PS: How on earth did they never end up calling it Tower of Rom?

THe room idea sucks, but to get a hold of those roms and to be able to play them on the xbox 360 with the controller / arcade stick would be great, there is a lot of those old roms which would be nice to play with the 360, this will also make a lot of the “rom” arguments go the way of the dodo, bacause now you would have a place to replay them.

Just hope somehow they can capture the high scores from the rom and have a worldwide leaderboard.

And I would like the original bubble bobble, because the one on xbla is just not the same.

That’s true uberutang, but you know what they say about imitation being the sincerest form of flattery.

Ironically, the Xbox live version of Home will be considered the pinnacle of console-based social interaction, primarily because it’s fashionable to be anti-Sony and more so anti-Playstation Home 😛 :pirate:

The PS3 always seem to be playing the victim, ag shame! PS3: “Everybody hates me!”

BTW, game room looks like crap considering it’s not free.

        So very true Slippy.

The PS3 is like that nerdy kid next door, regardless of the fact that one day he’ll became a filthy rich executive, all the jocks love to pick on him.

Update: Wait… did you say you have to pay 40 MS pts per gameplay (or 400pts for the whole game)? Good grief Microsuck! Maybe folks won’t consider this the pinnacle of console-based social interaction.

The only two arcade games that actually made my toes curl were Double Dragon and Golden Axe. I really don’t know why, but those two games became an obsession of mine.

Far too many 20cents* (and eventually 50cents)were wasted on those games. 😀 Pure bliss though.

      *Yes Bobby is that old.

    400MSP for an ooooold game.

They should just make it free (well not free, but for gold members, you pay subscription, you play all the arcade you want)

yeah i know, that’s hippie thinking. But that’s all they’d be doing, encouraging ROM downloads.

How dare you want anything for free on xbox live? Don’t you know that free things are generally of a lower quality (cough PSN), and that sort of communist/hippie thinking makes Bobby Kotick wake up at night screaming.

If I wanted to old games, I would play them on PC. For Free.

I hope you’re not advocating piracy my good man, because even though MAME is legal, the ROMs are not.
