Xbox Live is down, hackers claim responsibility

[Update] It’s mostly back online.

If you’re in South Africa and you’re trying to connect to Xbox Live right now, you have a problem; you’re playing games when you should be working. Right now though, it’s prime night gaming time in the US – and Xbox Live is very much down. The usually rock-solid service is currently on its knees – with that jolly group of hackers (Or script kiddies, if you like) – Lizard Squad – taking credit for its issues.

Many Xbox 360 and Xbox One owners have  been reporting problems with connecting to Xbox Live. Instead of multiplayer fun, consoles are responding with the 80151909 error code, warning that an Xbox Live profile has failed to download when users attempt to sign in. Some are able to sign in and play, with most reporting that it’s just the social features – friends lists and Twitter – that aren’t functioning. While I’ve not attempted signing in on my consoles, attempts to log in on Xbox.com have been fruitless. Lizard Squad is the group that’s taken credit for much of the hacking malarkey of late, with Direct Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks on PlayStation ntwork this year, as well as attacks on individual games like Grand Theft Auto 5, League of Legends and Destiny.

They’re also the delightful chaps who claim to have hacked 2K, PSN and other online services, leaking your passwords for your protection as a consumer. They’re doing this for you, guys. They’re also promising much more to come this holiday season,  so expect to spend a lot of time not doing things online.

According to Microsoft’s Xbox support site, there are currently no issues with Xbox Live services or apps.

I hope they get caught, and when they do they get sent to Antarctica to dig trenches for the rest of their useless lives.

I have two coffee mugs for that very reason. 1 says “I HATE morning people” and the other a yellow smiley face. It’s a trick though, even if I’m using the smiley face mug I still hate them. I HATE THEM ALL!

I hope the punks responsible have been caught by this billion dollar monster. Strung up by their toes with piano wire connected to electricity. Then have each toe and fingernail slowly pulled away with pliers. All while watching their computers dismantled and covered in the feces that came out of their tortured half dead worthless waste of flesh. Take the scraps of crap covered electronics and light it on fire. Then slowly move their bodies over the flames only to pull the back and water board them with ice water. Then take the worthless parents who bred and raised them and put them to death by firing squad. Make the hacker watch if he hasn’t died yet.

Damnit on my day off I wake up to this, tried myself and just got this error.

Annoying when little kids try and play big, MS should at least compensate days of gold to those of us who are suffering.

well, at 60$ a year, an 8 hr shutdown would be about 30 cents. However, I really can’t stand these guys. If they had some kind of agenda (such as protesting all the little ways Microsoft / Sony are forcing us to buy microtransactions or buy DLC that is already on the disc / download, I’d probably support them a little more.

Really, they’re just anarchists though and I can’t wait till Microsoft / Sony catch them. I don’t care how “good” they think they are, it’s basically like going up against a government. MS / Sony have MUCH BETTER hackers and trackers than members of this group are..

While we all feign mock disgust and anger, It’s actually scary. Looking at the transition to a online lifestyle across the globe for most of humanity, Folks like these have potential to do damage. Ironic that 5 minutes ago I was watching a news segment on CNN which was asking about who is responsible for hacking into Sony and downloading 5 yet to be released films.

The “Guardians of Peace” apparently. Yes, they’re guarding peace… by hacking Sony, trying to blackmail them & leaking movies online because… um… reasons and conspiracies. And they’re the good guys. Shows you the mentality you’re dealing with.
