Xbox One: 3.9 million shipped

Xbox one consumer

It may seem like ages ago, but the holiday season has only just left us. Oh, the generosity – tons of presents, food and booze. No wait, that’s not what Christmas is about… is it? Well, that generous spirit certainly worked well for Microsoft.

According to Microsoft’s quarterly results, their profits are up about 3% with sales jumping 14%. The Devices and Consumer segment (in which Xbox One is categorized) was up 13% to $11.91 billion. That’s right, they shipped 3.9 million units into retail in the last quarter of 2013, making a very pretty penny – of course none of that was made in South Africa. Steve Ballmer said:

Our Commercial segment continues to outpace the overall market, and our Devices and Consumer segment had a great holiday quarter. The investments we are making in devices and services that deliver high-value experiences to our customers, and the work we are doing with our partners, are driving strong results and positioning us well for long-term growth.

Just goes to show that the console wars are pretty inconsequential. We may keep getting news that the Xbox One isn’t as powerful as the PS4, but the reality is that it’s still a cool piece of technology that people want to buy. It looks like a fun console, and I know plenty of people are still desperate for a launch date so we know when we can get our grubby hands on it. That said, it seems that Microsoft is doing just fine by focusing on a few specific markets – who needs a global launch when you’re making this much money off of a select few countries? Sure, it makes us feel neglected, but from a business standpoint, they are still doing just fine. Of course, they may regret this choice in the long run when South Africa becomes a purely PS4 market… but only time will tell.

Nah, they would probably name it something like, “Cannibal rat ghost ship from Hell”

And for some reason have it be caused by some mysterious force in the Bermuda Triangle were the star comes across some ancient tribal curse that he has to break before the rats destroy the world

That’s because those 13 countries can actually afford these TV games.

Speaking of Xbox – has anyone noticed the sudden drop in the number of Arcade releases on the local 360 Live Arcade? I may be wrong but when you select Arcade titles by popularity it lists 141 games. When I checked a couple months back it would list roughly 250…

Has MS SA decided enough is enough and abandoned us? Luckily I migrated to UK (frikkin exchange rate not helping) where selection is at least much much larger!

“when South Africa becomes a purely PS4 market” Like the good old days of ps2, even the days of ps1 which had a little bit of competition from the sega saturn but that died down very quickly

Marketing hype crap shipped and sold are two very different things. Microsoft also shipped 1 billion dollars worth of surface tablets and had to write them all off as no one ended up BUYING them.

Does lazy gamer also take money on the down low like Machinima for M$ advertisements dressed up like articles?
Shouldn’t you guys have a disclaimer that this is paid for advertising and not journalism?

Ain’t the internet dandy, not just baseless allegations. But also answering your own question, why bother and just chat to your self?

I would love to call you what you are but being beneath contempt sounded a little less brutal. If you don’t like it be constructive or move the f#ck on (quietly).
