You know those silly warning signs that flash when you watch TV or DVDs? The ones saying it’s for private use only, which puts limitations on how many people can view such videos and where they can be shown. Well, it appears that Microsoft is going to make production houses happy while making viewers less than pleased.
So, we know that the Kinect can perceive the people in the room. This can be used with the Xbox One to monitor, count and identify the people watching TV or other content. According to this source,
In one scenario, the system would then charge for the television show or movie based on the number of viewers in the room. Or, if the number of viewers exceeds the limits laid out by a particular content license, the system would halt playback unless additional viewing rights were purchased.
Additionally, Microsoft patented technology to estimate a person’s age based on their body proportions – this could be used to also determine if viewers met any age requirements for engaging with content through the Xbox One. I wonder if this will also be used to ensure that children meet the age rating of games.
Everything about the Xbox One is reminiscent of dystopia books I know and love. I’m not saying everything about Microsoft or the Xbox One is creepy, or even sinister. However, it always starts with a benign approach before more disturbing applications are employed. All I know is that the more I find out, the more my hair stands on edge!

My Blu-ray player doesn’t charge extra if more people are in the room, and it’s a lot cheaper. Guess what I’ll be sticking to!

Everyone is all negative. Well here is a valid positive. Pirates with some tech savvy will start developing active cloaking technology. Just think how awesome it would be to stream a new movie while cloaked. MS sees no person so no license applies and bam! No fee. :p

I already have a few ideas that is going to make me millions to enable pirate viewing:
Turn the kinect around to face the wall or put in front so it only see one person
A blanket to cover the kinect
Sunglasses
Everybody assume the MS movie viewing position (side view):

Mirrors, MIRRORS! And smoke! That’s a good point, if you have a cig, will the thing think there are more heat sources in the room?

Cant you just turn the Xbone to the side. So the eye points towards the wall or something.
But ja. Dont think I will be buying into the Xbone anytime soon. Still got my PC. Still got steam.

Ok, then I’ll say it.. Everything about Microsoft or the Xbox One is creepy, or even sinister. 🙂
No way in hell I am allowing MS to monitor my gaming, TV, amount of friends or any other bad habits I may have..
This console is apparently something out of the future preparing for an invasion.. WAHAHA..
No thank you, I’ll see what the PS4 does..

This sounds alarmist. I think it may or may not happen, but to speak as if these myriad of things are fact and in our imminent future is not quite true, is it?. I do not know up from down anymore.
WHEN Xbox thingie is released I will read up the product documentation.
WHEN the PS4 is released I will read then up the product documentation.
THEN I will determine what, if anything, will server MY needs. And spend my money like that.
for now, I will enjoy all the hype and stuff. Why not? 🙂
I am finding many website reporting a lot of things. Report each other, or quote sources.
A patent is a patent on an idea: it may signify that when people or the market is more ready to accept this idea, I, the patent holder, would like a jump start.
