Xbox One is the home to most of this year’s exciting games

Both PlayStation and Xbox had some cracking announcements at E3 this year and as usual neither side was willing to give the other the benefit of the victory. Being a Gears of War fan myself I was obviously very pleased with the showing of Gears of War Ultimate Edition and Gears of War 4 but which platform actually had the best showing?

It’s the sort of question that will never be answered as each platform showcased things that appealed to a section of the industry but the one constant measure we can always use will be sales figures.

So far the PlayStation 4 is winning in this generation when it comes to sales figures so you would expect it to have the advantage when it comes to pre-orders. But when looking at Amazon, granted only a single retailer, the pre-orders are heavily weighted in the Xbox One’s favour.

Here are the top 10 most pre-ordered items announced at E3 2015 according to Amazon, as reported via MVCUK

  1. Rare Replay, Microsoft – Xbox One exclusive
  2. Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, Microsoft – Xbox One exclusive
  3. Doom, Bethesda – Multiplatform
  4. Dishonored 2, Bethesda – Multiplatform
  5. Final Fantasy VII Remake, Square Enix –  PS4 timed exclusive
  6. Gears of War 4, Microsoft – Xbox One exclusive
  7. South Park: The Fractured But Whole, Ubisoft – Multiplatform
  8. Horizon Zero Dawn, Sony-  PS4 exclusive
  9. Dishonored Definitive Edition, Bethesda – Multiplatform
  10. Xbox One Elite Wireless Controller, Microsoft – Xbox One exclusive

So if you are an X1 owner you will be able to play/use 8 out of the top 10 most pre-ordered items while the PS4 fans will only be getting 6 of them. But it’s not really a fair comparison as both platforms only have a single new title in that top 10 and it’s for the PlayStation which is the only one with a brand new IP.

Pretty sure I still don’t care. Doom is on that list. And Horizon Zero Dawn will make me wish I had a PS4.

Yeah some people are really hardcore in DOTA. As much as I enjoy the game, a lot of the people really make you wonder what went wrong with humanity. O_o

Alternatively, one could make the assumption that PS4 owners are frugal, thus would be less likely to actually pre-order.

I mean, you’re definitely not frugal if you still listen to anything Microsoft says…
PS4 sold better because of a lower price and resale market for example – definitely more frugal.

Or (if the fan boys are right) – PS Plus will probs give them awesome games for free anyway, so they never really have to buy the games outright.

Yeah PS Plus is cool too – often the free games are meh (sometimes cool). I dunno, I just wouldn’t measure “This year’s most exciting games” as the ones with the most pre-orders. That talks more to consumer behavior than it does to a game’s inherent value or a true reflection of what MOST people are excited about.

Agree completely. Pre-order is not the same as exciting. Millions of people pre-order and buy Apple products. Doesn’t make them either great, or exciting.

Lol. I sort of alluded to this below, but Doom makes me want a new graphics card, and Horizon makes me want a PS4. GoW can suck it. So in my books, Xbox is the clear loser.

The vibes that I got from the last E3 is that SONY are going for the 40 year olds using nostalgia. Microsoft are going more universal with the hope of implementing Windows 10 in everything and cross platforming with the PC. Nintendo are going for the Muppet demographic 😛

How awkward was the Microsoft keynote when They gave Tod Howard stage time to reveal Fallout 4 lol
Like the thing was for the share holders who dont know or watched the Bethesda keynote the day before.
Still they are getting better but it still seemed a little power pointy. Maybe its because we could not hear the audiance going BONKERS like they did at the SONY keynote.

As for the stage design… came across a little narcissistic.

    BACKWARDS COMPAT LOL

Something that should have been implemented day ONE!!! Seeing as the inards of the 360 and Bone are identical. We all know the PS4 cannot possibly do that so why the hell was this not a major selling point two years ago?

Anyway the install bases have already been set. XBONE for America.
