Ah, Black Friday! That wonderful day of shopping in the US of A when stores slash prices, and people slash each other in order to get those deals. Now that PS4 and Xbox One have been released internationally (but not locally), we can see what people really want to buy, and Xbox is the clear winner.
Over on InfoScout, we get some data about the console wars. Of course the Nintendo consoles are on the bottom of the heap, but the rest of the stack might just surprise you.
It’s important to note that there was limited availability of the PS4s and that Xbox 360 was marked down to $99 at Walmart for Black Friday. That said, the Xbox One and Xbox 360 clearly dominated the market, accounting for over 60% of console sales during the key holiday shopping weekend. Despite its lower price take, PS4 barely garnered 15%.
Is this because Xbox is the superior console? Or is it because America is Xbox country? Of course this is only looking at Walmart and Target – no mention of those other massive sales through Amazon or around the world at places like Game. It will be interesting to see how the numbers stack up after the launch period. Either way, this is a nice win for Xbox. We kept saying it would come down to how people voted with their wallets. So far, the vote is clearly in Xbox’s favor.

Looking at comments from various Black Friday warriors that most next gen consoles sold out very early on. So these figures are actually just stock ratios carried by the retailers, also might explain the very neat breakdown.
End of the season console sale figures combined with cross platform games sales for each will give the best indication which one won the first console war battle.

I still do not get it…
In the past, console gamers argued with the PC wankers that graphics are not important, it is the game and story etc.
Now PS4 has 1080p and xbox one has 720p and now the console gamers argue about graphic quality…

A large number of the games on these consoles are cross-platform.. so if most games are going to look better on one of them, why wouldn’t you prefer that option? I don’t believe for one second that console gamers don’t care about graphics.. that’s pure nonsense. Besides that, in the past 3 years Microsoft have shown that they are more interested in pursuing the casual gaming market, at the expensive of core gamers’ interests. So most of their resources have gone into supporting Kinect and building a library of Kinect titles.

Yeah… not that great either. Zoo Tycoon looks pretty cool, but Forza 5 has been gutted in favour of microtransactions (much to the ire of fans) and Dead Rising 3’s performance issues have become a youtube sensation and then Ryse… poor fucking Ryse… pretty to look at by so dumb…

I have my PC to keep me entertained with awesome titles like The Witcher 3 and Dragon Age 3 and Star Citizen … when those titles are released the xbox wont even be in SA yet….

Infoscout doesn’t track sales, but they do track “intent to buy”, so this is essentially an opinion poll to see what shoppers were intending to buy on Black Friday. Funny enough, when you look at the actual list, Apple’s products eclipsed both consoles, BUT also when you look at the numbers of people interviewed, the sampling number is tiny….

Very misinformed article. The ps4 was almost entirely sold out at launch so there were none left to sell on black friday… sony sold 1 million consoles in 24hrs in the US alone on launch day. Xbone only sold 1mil worldwide in 24hrs. So there was a ton of stock to go around on Black Friday.

The PS4 was sold out by Black Friday brick and mortar stores may have kept a couple units for the shelves on Black Friday but there was no way there was a significant amount of units so no surprise Xbox One won there since even after Black Friday you could still find them on shelves
