You can lock the Last of Us to 30fps on PS4

TLOUR

The Last of Us on the PlayStation 4 runs at a gloriously 1080p, at a magnificent 60fps – for the most part. According to Eurogamer Spain, users will have the option to cap the game’s frame-rate at 30fps should they choose.

Why would this be something necessary? The reasons are twofold; it could be that the game runs at mostly 60fps – and a frame cap option exists so that gamers who’re sensitive to frame-rate changes can cap it off at 30 and feel somewhat more at ease.

The other reason such a cap could exist could be to help the game retain that “cinematic” aspect to it. I know that for some people, 60fps – especially in 3rd person action games – feels too unnatural and “videogamey,” and actually prefer games of that ilk to run at 30fps. I may be one of them.

My money’s still on the game not being able to quite sustain a constant 60fps. It joins other games like Infamous: Second Son and Killzone: Shadowfall that have the option to lock the game at 30fps –as neither is able to run at a consistent 60fps.

The Last of Us remastered will apparently also benefit from a sexy “photo mode” as we saw in Second Son, so expect a deluge of gorgeously drab post-apocalyptic digital snaps/.

Those who’ve had the opportunity to play the remastered version of The Last of Us say it’s quite the experience, better in just about every way when compared to the older PS3 one. I’d bloody well hope so. It’s out locally on August 1, and is available for just a wee bit less than a brand new game.

Unfortunately, it’s also been confirmed that there’ll be no cross-buy upgrade, so owners of the PS3 version won’t be able to upgrade on the cheap.

I wasn’t quite as blown away by the game as just about everybody else on the planet was, so I’m keen to give it another go, with the next-gen veneer it probably deserves.

Why not run it at 1fps to make it feel ‘arty’? Last I checked its a game you play with input devices. More frames = smoother response = more immersive experience. I’d rather drop the detail settings or resolution.

Well, you can also argue Better resolution = Less Jaggies = More immersive experience 🙂

PS: I’m not saying it is, I’m just saying your argument can go both ways…

Edit: Love the 1fps idea, Hipsters will love the shit out of it!

Geoffrey, when you replay TLOU play it on Hard with the listen ability disabled (if you didn’t the first time). I saw people on local forums moaning that the game is just another 3rd person zombie shooter (WTF), but they played the game on Easy. Obviously you can run and gun on easy. The tension and excellence of TLOU only really comes to the fore when you are fighting for your life.

Disclaimer: The above is my opinion and I’m sticking with it!

The game was in no way perfect. The AI was shoddy at times and really broke the immersion and some of the gameplay elements felt really forced. But it never detracted much from the experience for me. It’s still one of the best games I have ever played in my ENTIRE life. Playing on hard was pure bliss. Rare is a game that hooks me from start to finish in both gameplay and story.

If your PC is worth bragging about consoles are a small expense in comparison.

I am looking forward to play this game, I have however been warned that there is excessive swearing in the game. No child actually acts that way in real live. The few that hated the game could not relay with the main character, sometimes they wanted to shoot the child rather than help her.

Whaaa, the question is would you want to protect such a child or kill the child yourself.
Compare this to walking dead season 1.

Well, to give you some perspective: I hate children in movies and games and any TV series. The day that a zombie feasts on Carl’s innards will be a wonderful day!

Ellie never once annoyed me. I want to go into her character more, but that will spoil the experience for you somewhat. All I can say it play it 🙂

Its an interesting step TBH, I do however think pubs are pandering to useless fanboy debates. I like that the feature is there, I just dont necessarily agree why it is (in re: framegate)
I wonder if this is going to be a trend?

Playing Tomb Raider again at 60fps makes the game more enjoyable. You can do things like leveling up much quicker only because it’s quicker to track a headshot at the blink of an eye.

I simply do not understand that. In gaming, more frames = better and smoother gameplay. The end. All this talk about capping at 30 FPS (unf*ckingheardof in PC gaming) sounds absolutely rediculous to me. It’s like gamers were used to crappy framerates and that fast input response and gameplay are too much for them.

In that case why did they not have a purist setting to invoke the PS3 graphics on your PS4! What a freaking load of bollocks!

There was actually a twitter exchange early on during the 60FPS testing, where one of their devs or someone at ND (I think, could’ve been someone else equally important), said they preferred the cutscenes in 30fps. If it can hit 60fps, putting a setting for locking at 30 wouldn’t be any kind of challenge.

Sure… I suppose it does not matter if it’s optional. It just makes no sense to me. I have never felt like I had too many FPS in a game and or cutscene.

And seriously! After all the hoo ha about frame rates, this dude is telling us that a significant number of people actually requested this? Smells like some of the brown stuff to me.

Don’t see why, you’ve already had numerous people from Neil Drukmann to Corrine Yu, throughout the entire company who’ve confirmed and reconfirmed that it runs at a solid 60fps.

If someone wants the cutscenes at 30fps, who cares? I won’t use it, doesn’t mean someone else won’t.
