You can play the whole of Far Cry 5 in co-op

I’ve always enjoyed the freedom offered by Far Cry games, especially when you start playing things a little off script. That sort of wondrous fun was only compounded in Far Cry 4, where you could play the game’s side activities with a friend online. Taking on an enemy encampment with a buddy was a blast, but the inability to play through the game’s missions the same way was a sore point.

Next year’s Far Cry 5 fixes that, but it introduces a few of its own problems. As revealed in a trailer at Sony’s Paris Games Week shindig yesterday, players will be able to play through the whole of Far Cry 5 with an online friend. Once both players have completed the game’s opening single player mission, the game’s world opens up in co-op, with both players able to earn whatever XP, loot, and player progression they make during the co-op session.

The bummer? World progression only counts for the host – so quests, open world activities and outpost liberations only tic over for the main player. So those rumours earlier this year were spot on, then.

Far Cry 5 stirred quite a bit of controversy when it was first announced, with the game’s bad guys being a bunch of religious cultists – something that didn’t quite sit right with the fragile right-wingers that love making a noise on the internet. Since then, Ubisoft has hand-waved suggestions that the game is a political statement away. After Wolfenstein II’s overt look at anti-facism, it’s all coming across as being a little toothless.

Anyway, it still looks like a fun time – though I have to admit that the time I’ve spent with Far Cry 5 thus far has left me feeling a little…underwhelmed. Hopefully, that changes when the game is out in February next year.

This still looks good, will be running this in Co-op.
I just need to decide if it will be purchased on special or release.

My mate and I are the biggest Far Cry fans. Co-op FC5 is going to be GREAT. We’ll probably finish it over a weekend anyway.

Local co-op would be nice. I mean, Ubi wouldn’t get two people’s money (they would, but you know what I mean) so they won’t do it, but it would be nice.
